I've been really busy lately and haven't been able to participate much in the board.
I almost cut my hair off last week, b/c the heat is killing me and the bangs really annoy the hell outta me because they still dont fit in the tail and ANY LITTLE BREEZE kills the ponytail, and that also annoys the hell outta me.
Also, one thing i dont like about my hair...is that when i tie it into a tail, there are short hairs above my sideburns that stick out and make me look like a crazy guy. (i dont know why those few hairs haven't grown like the rest...but its annoying cause it looks like a bad case of frizz on both sides of my head)
Im still trying to grow it but a lot of problems have been coming my way (ha, like the awkward stage wasn't enough of a problem)....not to mention i have the same problem as nuttidave, my ponytail doesn't really look that good cause it hangs in the air b/c its too short (and not clean-looking).
Well, i guess that wasn't so short of an update at all...but just wanted to share.
Comments/Help/Advice are welcome as always.

Could you try double-tailing it? Make a half-tail at the top, and then bind the rest in a lower tail right below it. That might work better for you, and would keep you cooler.

Lots of guys have said recently that the hair at the temples and right above/in front of the ears never gets as long as the rest. I guess it's a common thing. It happens to me too.
A little spray or gel will do the trick. Get an alcohol-free type of either, and it won't do any damage to your hair. Kind of lube your hands up with a teensy bit of gel when your tieing it all back, or when tied back, spray the problem spots a little and run your hand over the area after spraying.
The picture looks just fine to me -- not crazy at all. A little more length, then you can tie it lower, and it won't stick out on the back. You will be surprised in a few more months.
Hi Gio. Your hair is looking great. Personally, I think your tail looks pretty good. Maybe try a little gel to keep those short hairs on the sides in control. Use about a dime size amount and rub it on your hands and the run your hand thru your hair and comb. Hope it work for you.

You're not alone bud. I have tons of those short temple hairs. On my next update, I'll make sure to take a picture of them while my hair is tied up. I laugh because you all think ya got it bad with these short hairs. lol. wait till you see mine! I look like a serial killer with a pony tail. I suggest you apply some gel or spray. I think thats the only way to get them under control
Just hang in there. You are in the worst of the Awkward Stage and yes....for many it is downright maddening. IN 6 months with 3 more inches growth you will be noticing a BIG difference.
It is at your stage that the guys that "give-in," give in. Then after they they have it cut are sorry and start all over again.
The less at this time you can spend looking in the mirror the better.
(Guess I was lucky because I liked all the wild looks that came along with the Awkward Stage and actually enjoyed going through it.) A "new look" every day! :-)
I guess it was at this stage i cut off my hair as well, maybe a little shorter, and i do regret it sometimes, even though it probably was for the best consiering i had damaged it with dyes and such and wanted my natural haircolor back.
But just hang in there man, in a few months it'll get much better:)
It looks great now as well!
Simon
Thanks a lot for all the comments and advice guys. I actually just bought this L'oreal Studio Light-Headed gel...it seems to work nice.
Yeah, i thought only i had that short hair problem..thanks for clearing that up.
I'm going to be seeing my family in Thanksgiving this year and wanted to have this problem solved by then so hopefully my hair will grow to a point that the ponytail looks neater.
Thanks again,
-Gio
Man, I get the same thing with the frizzies, especially when it's humid (its' summer, when is it not humid?) And why don't the short hairs just go in the same direction as the rest of my hair. I have straight hair more or less, but these look like little crazy, bent antena(s)!! But stick with it Gio, it will get better. Thats' what I tell myself.
Take care, and keep on growin'
Bruce
Hey Gio, you've read my post, and we are experiencing the same problems! And I too get those side wispy bits, when the rest of the hair is slicked down they just look silly. I have smoothed a little gel on mine and it does work, also I tuck any stray hair behind my ears.
Keep the faith.
Cheers Dave
Hi Gio
I know it's tough but hang in there it gets better eventually. I too have those short hairs on the side and when wearing a tail I spray a shot of hair spray on them and gently smooth them down. It's not my preference as I hate hair spray but it keeps it clean and tidy for work. To make matters worse now those short hairs are grey so I look like some old mad scientist if I don't spray em.
LOL
