Hello members of the MLHH. My name is Ryan, I currently live in the glorious commonwealth of Massachusetts in the US, and I am 20 years old.
I had attempted to grow my hair about two and a half years ago. I cannot remember why I decided to hack it all off after about 10 months, but fortunately I decided to have another go at it. I currently am at 14 months, give or take a week, and hope to stay for the long haul this time around.
I think this is a superb community with a great wealth of knowledge and support from all members.
Peace and Happiness to all,
Ryan
Hahaha! The look in the second pic is funny. You're gonna look great with long hair. Throw away all scissors and avoid hair salons and barber shops like the plague. Society needs MORE longhairs. Welcome to the club!
Carol
Haha, yes I tend to make unusual expressions in most pictures even when I try to look semi-serious. Fortunately I've been able to escape the dreaded "maintenance trim" thus far (but not without some pestering from friends and family!). Thanks for the reply.
Welcome Ryan to the Hyperboard and so glad that you found us. Your hair looks to be doing fabulous for the 1st 14 months. Best of luck to you in growing it out further.
I am seriously looking forward to the day my hair reaches as far down as yours. Thanks for the welcome!
Welcome aboard Ryan!
I'm glad that you found us. This is an excellent community like no other. I am certain you will enjoy this community very much. It has lots to offer. With that said, Your hair looks superb. You have some very healthy curly hair. Keep it growing man
see you around
Thanks a lot man, I appreciate it! I definitely dig your hair from the looks of your avatar.
Hi Ryan,
I would like to extend my warmest welcome to you, I am delighted that you have found the hyperboard. It really is a community like no other. Your hair looks great, it is thick and healthy with shiny curls, and you have come such a LONG ways in 14 months. Congratulations go to you for sticking with it this time, and keep up the great growth.
All the best,
David
Excellent looking hair and beard there, David. Thanks for the welcome!
Hi Ryan,
Thank you for your kind words about my hair and beard, I really appreciate it.
Take care,
David
Welcome Ryan, I'm glad you found us. Your hair is coming along nicely and will look great long! Ignor the comments and criticism of the short hairs, whether they are family, freinds or not. They are not generally open minded enough to see that change is possible and that it is ok for everyone to be different from one another.
Keep on growin'
Bruce
I definitely agree with that analysis. Fortunately I have received a number of compliments from acquaintances as well, which makes it easier to deal with the criticism. Thanks for the welcome!
Welcome to the MLHH. I think you'll find that with the support here, you won't find yourself cutting it all off again.
And fyi, you look much better with the long hair than without.
Thanks, I really appreciate the compliment! See ya around.
Hey Ryan,
Don't worry about the past, as a lot of us around here have done that as well (myslef included). It should be a breeze this time, though, since you already know what lies ahead a bit, --- and your hair looking GREAT when it was long doesn't hurt, either!
Take care, and again, WELCOME!

Even in my relatively short time as someone with long-ish hair, I can safely say growing hair is a learning process. Its a true marvel to stop and think how marvelous a feature the human head of hair is when treated properly. Thanks for the warm welcome!
Welcome!!
Wow what a transformation, longer hair looks sooooooo much better on you, great stuff, keep it growing and flowing.
Cheers Dave
Awesome man, thanks. By the way, I spotted your previous topic about the tail. I think it looks great for sure. See ya!
Hello, and now i am lost for words....
Hey, silence speaks volumes on occasion. Glad you decided to start growing your hair too man. See ya around!
Hi, welcome to this great community. I am at around 14 months as well, this board has saved me from a haircut more than once.
You very nice hair.
Your brother in waviness,
Allen
Oh boy, I hear that. Whistlin' to the tune of curly/wavy hair is undoubtedly a rollercoaster ride. You have great looking hair as well! Peace.
Hi Ryan
Welcome to the community glad to have you here. I wish you luck in your second try at growing out your hair. I might also suggest if you haven't done so already, reading Bills "on being a longhair"
http://www.choisser.com/longhair/
Loads of good info there that may make the journey much easier.
Take Care
Kevin
Woa, believe it or not I stumbled upon and read that essay a year or two ago and found it to be brilliant. Thanks for giving the link so I can read it again! See ya around Kevin, and thanks for the welcome!
Hey Ryan. Welcome to the board. Your hair looks pretty cool already and you made a good move by growing it.
Keep us updated on yr future progress.
Best wishes Troy.
Will do. Best wishes to you as well, and thanks for the welcome! Peace.
welcome to the mlhh! unfortunatley i'm going to have to dislike you because you have curls, and that makes me insanely jealous. ;) the longer hair suits you well, even with the funny face. you would definitley look awesome with length past the shoulders. hope to see you around!
peace,
nic
There have been, and still are, times when I envy those with less curly hair than mine. I definitely know the feeling.
I'm thinking that I subconsciously try to make such odd facial expressions so people will think my hair looks even better in comparison. Whether or not that is really the case, thanks for the welcome!
Thanks for posting, RyanK.
I notice you are at about the same stage as I am (though with a bit less curl). We also share similar before pictures. Doesn't it just feel good to finally start letting our hair down?
Your hair looks great keep on growing!
Shawn (Mr.Crow)
just wanted to say i love the new avatar! it's awesome!
Hey there, Shawn. Thanks for the welcome! You have some fantastic looking curls there for sure. I agree 100% that its amazing to finally let our hair grow. Hope to see ya around!
Welcome Ryan! Your hairs looks great; thick and curly. It reminds me a bit of my hair at that length, so if you take a look at my avatar you know what might be waiting for you. :-) Good luck on growing! How is the response from friends, family, collegues?
Hey man, thanks for the kind words. If my hair ends up looking anything like yours, I'll consider myself blessed. It definitely looks as though you have a few different shades of color here and there, I've noticed that in my case as well.
Actually, my immediate family seems to be more accepting of my hair lately. I worked with some older people when my hair was just entering the awkward stage a few months back, and I got some criticism from them, but I can't expect everyone to see things my way :)
Peace
