I know it was a while ago but here is my experience (based on medical advice) WARNING! I tend to ramble
I have always had a weight problem and have gone on 2 doctor supervised fasts-lost 90 lbs each time. I took vitamins and protein supplements. The thing is that hair (and nails) are produced by protein. When you fast -with or without protein supplements the body channels any protein intake into essential muscles- mainly the heart- NON essentials for survival like hair and nails become protein starved and slow down growth-doctors warned us never to get a perm or hair color because the hair is weakened- I've now had gastric by pass and focus on mainly ingesting protein. People who DON'T get enough protein report hair falling out-anorexics who starve themselves end up having severve hair loss or very brittle hair because the body is using whatever protein it can get just to survive. So IF you are going to fast for whatever reason and for whatever length of time-Hydrate-take vitamins-chewables break down easier- and some sort or protein supplement-also restrict strenuous activity- because your body will need more rest during the fast. i.e. when the Bible talks about fasting it always mentions prayer-a quiet, less stressful activity- so take it easy. BTW I'm a long time lurker and appreciate all of you.
Thank you for that important information crazyage! Welcome, btw!

Thank you. A lot. Really.
I plan on starting it the beginning of next week, or the one after. Any help is really appreciated.
Hey man, I have taken several college-level physiology and nutrition classes and I can't remember anything beneficial about not eating at all. IIRC, at the cellular level, your body metabolizes nutrients (carbs, protein, and fat) from whatever source it can find them, be it food or existing muscle tissue or glycogen (basically, fat). The cells continues to do their thing whether you are eating or not, and the metabolites (wastes) continue to be produced. Long story short: if you fast, you get weaker. However, if you improve your diet and cut out excess sugar and sat fat, you get healthier. YMMV.
