Hello everyone,
I've been researching not washing hair and just water wash. I guess it's better not to use shampoo and only water. I'm not sure if this is totally true. I'm going to try it out for a few weeks and see if I see a difference. Has anyone here tried this and what was the outcome.
Eric.
Yeah, you won't be the first to have tried this method. I think that here you'll find some persons who use this "Water Only" method, with success !
Personally, I have tried during less than a week (-_-#) and I've quick stopped, because of my greasy hair (not very beautiful, in fact). But, I believe that after one month, hair becomes correct...

a month? hair becomes correct? in what way
12 months into the 'experimentation', many wrong-turns, so on, not so much information on the net; anyway, these are some of the thigs I now observe:
eat well, sleep well,
not too much beer or whisky;
avoid drenching my hair in water (just like cats. I never knew a cat that liked geting soaked).
My hair is 'dry' most of the time.
Gentle brushing-through at least three times a day: morning noon and night.
Realise that the hair will be different - the feel of it is like raw silk.
One of the amazing things is how it takes it's own body and shape.
And the aroma is like an animal, but it doesn't need to be a goat, instead like a rabbit, or somesuch creature!
Dandruff has been a problem; touch wood I realise I've levelled-out on this front. No noticeable dandruff for some weeks now.
If you ever feel it's no hope, maybe you're run-down. Give yourself a good meal, a good nights sleep and brush, surprising how the hair shows it's appreciation.
Well, I'm still learning.
I wouldn't be too hardline about it, but instead just experiment, see what is best for you.
It's a big adjustment for the body, normally used to working overtime, producing oils to make up the loss each time you shampoo, suddenly it's piling-up because you're no longer washing it away. So, perhaps the first couple of months it does no harm to clear this excess with shampoo, if you feel it's unmanageable.
But don't feel you're back at square one: slowly cutting down the shampoo ritual, the body re-calculates how constant the oil supply needs to be.
Regarding the self-cleaning powers of natural hair oil, I recently went on a camping trip, and one night had far too much to drink, wandering off into the woods. Realising I'd been gone too long a time, my friends searched and found me asleep in a trough of mud and leaves, reluctant to move because I was spending the night with the badgers!
Needless to say I was in quite dishevelled state the next morning; but, stubborn, I resisted the call of the shower.
A kind, good brushing, and the morning to walk around, all the dirt fell away and by evening everything was back to normal. I was quiety astonished.
This is one of the things though. In this condition my hair rarely tangles. When I awake it is so easy to comb through, and it forms it's natural curls and ringlets.
On occasions that I have washed it over the past year (mistakenly obliged for special visits, or the like) it all comes back to me how fragile 'clean' hair is, and how easy the frizz gets in tangles, and has no distinct pattern to the way it hangs.
So, just a few more thoughts on the matter!
So many variants, and it depends on your situation and way of life.
There are those here, Eric, who, due to a gift from Dame Nature, can actually go w/o shampoo washings and only using water as their hair wash. BUT, since everyone's different, not everyone can go that route.
I, for one, need to use a shampoo with a follow-up conditioner. Sebum (skin oils) build-up, heavy perspiration (duuude, I'm nothing if not a perspirere!), and slow replacement of new cells resulting in seborrhea (danruff) DICTATE that I use shampoo and conditioners . . . and tea tree oil (kudos to fellow horror movies maven ChrisH!)
Experiment, Eric, see what's apropos for you. I, however, couldn't just do the "water only" route. Anybody else? What say ye?

Eric,
I've been washing my hair with conditioner only instead of shampoo. To me it's better for my hair than using just water...but that's just me.
Hope this helps!
Take care and keep it growin'!

Different things work for different people.
I've been Water Only for more than a year and my hair is fine, and so is my scalp. Turns out that my scalp had been unhappy with hair products since forever (dandruff, buildup, etc) and going WO has cleared all that up.
Before I was WO I was S&C about once a week, then I did a month of CO where my scalp was happy but my hair was O/O (Otter in an Oilslick) which ended with a very mild shampoo and I went straight to WO and suffered no further oiliness or transition.
For best hair, I should rinse twice a week, which I don't always manage, but if I need my hair to be nice, I can always do back to back WO with the usual detangle and fine comb out (dry). I use a strong spray which penetrates my hair and massages the scalp (once at the beginning of the shower and once near the end), then do a vinegar rinse on the scalp. My length gets wet, but is not manipulated at all. I use warm water, and this and the finger detangling and fine combing finish move the natural oils down nicely to the ends.
In general, the more often you wash, and the more stripping the products you use, the worse the transition will be.
Hi Eric,
Although I have definitely cut back on how frequently I shampoo my mane, as someone who does part-time gardening / landscaping jobs (as well as work part-time in a hot, steamy kitchen), there's no way in hell for me to get out manure dust, pieces of mulch and/or soil, spilled fertilizers, weeds and/or other plant material, and a whole host of other yucky stuff that falls into my hair whenever I'm working outdoors... To not shampoo at least SOMETIME during the week would mean I'd most likely lose most of my friends and favorite dance partners, --- and besides, i ENJOY my hair just after it's freshly shampooed & well-conditioned!
I currently average giving myself a thorough shampooing & conditioning about twice a week, --- sometimes I can even go for as long as 5 days between shampooings. In-between those times, yes, indeed I do water-wash only (or if needed, use conditioner with water only); but, eventually my scalp needs the thorough treatment of a good lathering up and rinsing out.... And it says a big, "Ahhhhhhhh!!!" afterward!

Hi
I've been WO for last three months, and i totally love it! My hairs feels so very soft, they look nice even after many days of not washing (not greasy) and keep their shape, just little finger combing and they're all fine again. Oh, and they're less fizzy, a lot less.
I do wash my hairs sorta often and after washing it, i use applecider-vinegar rinse.
When i feel that my hairs is extra dirty (water takes away the "dirt" like 90%, and thats usually enough) I use baking soda mixture with water (tho carefull with the amount of baking soda, too much is no good), and wash like I washed with shampoo (no bubbles tho :P ) and then rinse normal with vinegar rinse.
I used to do that more often when i started WO, like ones a week, but now i do that two times a month or so. Even when starting WO you can have clean hair with baking-soda wash (just dont over-do it, or it'll take longer scalp to adjust). It takes about 6 weeks scalp to adjust and drop the oil-production (shampooing takes away the oils and scalp wants to replace those oils fast, so you get greasy hairs).
I have very fine straight blond hair and WO does wonders to my hairs :D
Hope this was some help =)

Hi there.
Well I never red about it but I've tried sometimes to wash my hair only with water and the result was not very good. I have curls and they get all messed up and very, very, very rough and dry. The same hapens if I dont use a s+ecial shampoo for curls or if I use those nasty and cheap shampoos from small super markets, that totally ruins hair...
take care
