Here I sit posting but yet I have to walk out the door in a few minutes on my way to Wacken. I will return Aug 9th with a camera full of pics very different from the Ren faire pics I've recently posted.
This is my annual pilgrimage I call it. The Muslims have The Hage
(spelling ???) The jews have the Wailing Wall and us Metal Heads
have Wacken. :P

Have fun dude. I didn't even know you were a metal fan! The Wacken lineup on the whole never appeals to me as there's always too many bands I've never heard of or I just don't like, but they always deliver with the top names (like Corpse, Emperor etc). I hope to see 1349 myself in a few months in the UK.
Again, have a hell of a time and I look forward to seeing your photos.

That's probably a hint to discover more bands man. :P Lesser known and underground metal bands are so much more rewarding when a good one is found, and there are tons.
I agree, and lesser known bands do comprise the bulk of my audio library, as I am a cheapskate who rarely buys CD, so basically most of my metal comes from bands who are throwing their stuff out on the internet. I've checked out Wacken bands I was unfamiliar with in previous years, and there's definitely a general sound that the promoters aim for which really bores me, and based on the 'type they go for', I am reasonably confident I am not missing out by deciding not to check out their new lineups. I discover new bands almost daily anyway - my only real 'problem' is in fact stumping up the cash for the big names out there. I only buy Decapitated albums, and various Black Metal bands that I rate very highly.
