Hello,
I've had long hair for some thirteen years or so and I still love it. At one point it was tickling my lower back, but nowadays it is half that long. I used to had really thick hair but stresful life and the lack of proper care (I believe) led to a bad hair loss. It is getting worse and worse and I am really worried I'll lose all my hair down the middle, which really is unbelievable given the fact I've had enough hair for three people. Do you believe cutting it would help regenerate it and stop the hair loss?
Did anyone have similar problems? If so, did you manage to stop the hair loss? Can anyone give me advice?
Thanks in advance.
Does MPB run in your family? I am loosing my hair too as men on both sides of my family are bald. However, My sides and back are at mid back and are still growing. It's just my top and bangs that have thinned out and stopped growing.
As for hair care, be gentle to it. I wash and condition daily as my hair gets oily quick. I comb it out slowly after washing, and once again when it's dry. I work big tangles out with my fingers. When I sleep I tail it, but loosely. The hair tie is at my lower neck. I find this helps control the tangles when I wake up in the morning.
Thanks for your answer.
No, there is no baldness in my family. My late grandfather from my mothers side had more hair when he died at 70, than I do now at 25 :(
My hair still grows and is thick and shiny at the back but at the top you can clearly see problems. Part of the problem could be the fact that I damaged it with rough pony tail treatment. I was never really gentle with my hair, I used aggressive shampoos (just never paid attention to that earlier) for daily or almost daily washes. I also get oily hair very quickly.
Nowadays I use a more appropriate shampoo but since I feel insecure about the thinning forhead, I probably use too much hair gel to secure it all and wear a very tight pony tail. I never tie my hair, I get no tangles after sleep.
Hi Kjartan,
My best advice to you is to see a doctor, preferably a dermatologist, who can examine your hair and advise as to the best course of action with your hair. It is possible taht he may advise you to take propecia, which directly reduces the levels of one of the enzymes (DHT) that can cause hair loss. It can be very effective in reducing, and in some cases, actually reversing hair loss, especially when one is young.
Hope this helps, and take care,
David
David mentioned propecia which may be worth a try. As far as I know, the remaining solutions that have been shown to really work are limited to: Rogain (and other preparations with whatever that stuff is in it that is the active ingredient--is it Propecia? Can't remember) and hair transplants. Yes, I agree, it is a real downer. I am going through this myself. Rogain et al. is supposed to be limited to the crown (the top of your head where hair spirals out or in my case used to a long time ago) and has to be applied on-going or any new growth falls out. Hair transplants usually work by taking skin with folicles from the back of your head just above the neck and grafting them to your top. this isn't cheap and I guess it works but, well....eeek--blood, bandages--to me, a last desperate resort. there's supposed to be some kind of finding that baldness can be reversed or stopped by some kind of genetic alteration--this just came out a few months ago. If it's true it should be out of the lab in about 20 years, done being tested in another 20 and affordable when we're all dead. But I'm hoping for it : )
Oh yeah, there's always the good old tried and true comb over. Anything else, any magic herb, or oil, or foil hat, magnets, sitting under a pyramid and so on are quack remedies.
