Alright, decided to do the whole Six week thing. I intended to do it in June but backed out, I've only been going two days...however I haven't had any grease at all. My hair looks and feels like I shampooed and conditioned. Which I assume is a good thing. Its staying in line. My only problem is I'm getting a bit of Dandruff, again, its not a huge problem. Hardly anything, I could easily live with it and never care, but I'm still curious. So I have a few questions:
1) Why no grease? Am I just lucky or...?
2) Does the Dandruff go away after six weeks, when your oil is regulated etc, or should I use something? If so, what?
Thanks in advance! :)
I'm sorry; I have no answers for your questions. I am posting because I'd like to have it explained to me why people want to do away with shampoo and conditioner. (I'm assuming WO means water only--please forgive me if I'm wrong.) I'm not trying to launch an attack or start an argument--I understand skipping shampoo for a day or three; I do that myself but I'd like to know what eliminating it for six weeks does. I don't see the scalp as a thing apart from the rest of the body. If I did not use soap in the shower for six weeks I think certain areas would get kind of scuzzy. Ditto for the top of my head. Thanks & best regards

I'm not that knowledgable. But basically the grease you have, is suppose to help your hair etc. But shampoo removes it, which makes your body produce more...meaning you have excess oils and thats the "grease" you have from not showering. Conditoner re-adds oils so your hair doesn't become dry. I think this originally started during the industrial revoloution, bad chemicals from factories damage the hair, shampoo was used to remove that. Then it just became a vicious cycle. Don't quote me on that, because im not sure.
Anyways, the point is after six weeks your scalp will fix the amount of oils it produces, so your hair wont be greasy. Not only do you save tons of money, but some peoples hair looks different. Different chemicals in your hair, makes a different look afterall. Some people can go from straight to wavy, etc. For me the only change I've seen (and its only been two days so I don't know if it counts) is a bigger flip in the back of my hair, which I always had. However now its more pronounced.
My personal reason, is not only to save money but again, simply see if my hair does something new. Why not?
And it isn't like it would damage your hair if it doesn't work out. I went from almost straight to somewhat wavy, otherwise little change visually.
The adjustment period varies for different people. I took about a month to adjust.
I do save money, but I lose time, since the routine takes about as long as S&C, but I do it twice as often (twice a week).
hey thanks for explaining everyone and good luck,
rob
*shrug* It doesn't seem to...or at least, it takes more than 15 months for me.
I have various reasons (answered variously below, this thread comes up ever few weeks), but the one that keeps me on it is that products irritate my scalp and lead to dandruff, buildup, and shedding, not to mention the itching.
My length is good all the time now, and as long as I stay on routine, the hair near my scalp stays nice from wash to wash, rather than the yoyo effect following product washing.
