Hey everyone,
Ive sort of been putting off updating on my progress, for many reasons really. Mostly though for lack of time, and because I wanted to make a bigger update today.
As the title suggests, today is my birthday and Im now 17. It seems the mods on this forum are gifted with perfect timing, as my application to join the directory of users has now successfully been processed (my picture is showing in the top left). So thanks for that guys :)
Im also, well, elated because my birthday present was a beautiful MacBook. Been waiting for more than a year for this baby. So yes, youve guessed right, I'm typing this up on a MacBook right now. I can now say from first hand experience that any and all hype circulating these laptops is completely underrated!
Ive used Windows for 9 years now, and hate it with a passion. Let me provide an example. I needed to uninstall an application. But nowhere in the system preferences or in the application menu itself was there anything to do with uninstalling. I even searched the help files and found nothing. A couple of minutes later and with some help from Google I found out what the problem is. All you have to do is drag the applications icon into the trash bin on the dock, and thats it! You dont even get an uninstall progress bar (you can recover the program from the trash later). Who would have thought? This interface is so intuitive that having been used to the clumsy Windows OS, we forget how simple these things can really be!
In a couple of weeks, and with a bit of luck, Ill be off to work in a bank for work experience. A great help when writing your university application for an economics course if you can mention work experience in a bank :P Lets hope they dont mind the hair, since I wont be working with clients directly anyway. Theyve seen pictures of me and still said yes so I guess they dont mind.
Anyway, Ive wondered off topic again, just like to point out that the last haircut I got did not reduce my hair to the length of a buzz cut. I had maybe a couple of inches left.
Here are some pictures of the progress. Unfortunately half of my family are off either on vacation or on business abroad, so the actual celebration will have to wait, so you wont see pictures of that Im afraid.
Oh and sorry for the smudge, I should get a new camera sometime :)
Ponytail, side view.
Ponytail from the back.
Hair down, back.

Hair down, front.
Is this from behind or from the front?
(Hair over face, Grrrr style :D)
This is me using my MacBook. The lack of games is great. No longer will they be an obstacle to productive work :)
Thanks for reading, derf out o/
Damnit! Let's try again shall we?
Third time lucky?
Now MLHH will be the obstacle to productive work! ;)
That ought to be interesting :P
Happy birthday to you! And i must say that your hair is coming along greatly as well, you've got the perfect type of hair to grow long.
And i do have to agree that the lack of games in Macs can sometimes be a good thing, as i know from own experience when i'm sitting in front of the computer playing for 8 hours or something, lol:D
Take care!
Simon
Tell me about it, Civ IV was the main culprit for me. No other game has managed to keep me entertained for so long :)
Thanks.
Wow, man! You have incredibly healthy, beautiful hair, and it looks great on you. I think both the ponytail and loose looks suit you very well, indeed. Please keep it growing!
About the Windows thing - I'm no expert, but when you mentioned a lack of uninstall options in files, I confess I have no idea what you're talking about, as I've seen uninstallation options available in virtually every program I've put on my computer. Admittedly, two or three didn't seem to have them, but these were tiny freeware programs, so hey.
Nevertheless, glad to hear you like the Mac.
Peace, man
Hey, thanks for the kind words :)
I think you mis-interpretted what I said about uninstalling. What I meant was that I didn't find any uninstall options in the programs on the MAC, not the Windows. This was of course until I realised they weren't needed, as all you had to do was drag the icon to the trash. I was saying that the interface was very well done and intuitive.
And yes, it is true that some windows apps don't have an uninstall feature which can sometimes be annoying.
Hi! Your hair is looking great man. I like grrr style picture as your bangs are awesome. The ponytail and hair down styles really suit you.
Del
Long hair looks really good on you, and the facial hair is a nice touch as well.
Keep it growing!
Mouse
I'm keeping the facial hair for a couple of reasons. First I think the goatee matches the hair, and second it avoids any gender confusion :P
Thanks.
i got the pictures from the third try. i especially like the hair down in front shot. shows great length and over the ears which i prefer. looks much different from your site picture.
I also like it when the hair is tucked behind an ear on one side, but not the other.
Anyway, thanks :)
Its looking good for only a year. It will be really long at the end of 2 years. Keep growing for sure.
Absalom
Holy crap! And people told me I had a really fast growth rate! Not only does your hair look phenominal, you actually looks as good in a ponytail as it does down. Something that I think looks too "meh" on me (I have to tie somewhat high). Plus, you're MacBook is really awesome! I can't wait to get mine (I don't think I will get it in time for my update, so I may as well do it today). Keep up the excellent work!
Joyeux anniversaire!
Your hair looks very good. You have some good length and a nice blend of mostly straight with some body to it. I hope and pray the bank doesn't say anything about your hair! Bank + long hair = problems (in my case). I hope it is different in Belgique. I am sure it is actually. Belgium vs. south Georgia, USA can hardly be compared! Good luck with all that.
That's a nice computer certainly. I had thought about getting one like that last year but got a Toshiba with windows instead. I've never had the opportunity to use the McIntosh operating system much, but hear that, as you said, it is very easy to use.
Thanks :)
I've just realised that I forgot to mention, but if it all works out, the bank i'll be working at will be in Switzerland, not Belgium. This is why it's taking a few weeks to get a work permit. Unfortunately I have absolutely no idea about attitudes towards long hair in Switzerland.
Awesome Dude! Hair looks great. Keep it growing. :-)
Thanks, will do :)
Hi derf26,
First of all, Happy 17th Birthday, I hope everything goes perfectly on your special day.
Your hair is awesome, you are blessed with thick and straight hair, and that is AMAZING progress for only 1 year, your hair grows FAST! Be sure to keep it growing.
All the best,
David
I'll make sure to grow it till at least mid-back length, thanks :)
Joyeux anniversaire !
Awesome hair, by the way, great progress for just one year !
And "Bravo" for the MacBook. Maybe one day, I'll choose Apple...
Bye
Vivien
That day will be a great day :P
I loved how when I opened the little information booklet they had, the first thing it said, in big letters was this: "Congratulations, you and your MacBook were made for each other".
Merci pour tout :)
Hi there derf26 and Happy Birthday to you!!!Congradulations on getting listed on the directory and of course being the proud owner of that new macbook:))))I have a mac too,an ibook G4 thats about 3 1/2 yrs. old now and I can say I'm very pleased with my time with it.Ever since I bought the ibook I rarely turn on the DELL anymore!LOL.Just evey few weeks to download virus updates and microsoft updates and use it a bit but I do love my mac!I'm sure you will have the same experience with yours as I'm having with mine and the tech support when I needed it has been great.
As for your hair its looking great!Nice straight black hair that you gotta love.Hopefully being your going into banking it doesn't affect that part of your appearance as has happened to others on this board.I've been very lucky to have made it this far in my life and not had to submit to such an aweful fate!At least for now your employer seems to be fine with your hair as you mentioned they saw pics of you.Whatever you do don't cave into a haircut demand in ther future if thats not what you want. Thanks for posting the great pics as they are all so cool.Mark
Hey, thanks for the nice comments :)
I'm hoping to use my MacBook for at least 4 years, so that it will last my final year of school + three years at Uni.
I'll do my best not to succumb to pressure from any employers ;)

At last my friend! WELCOME ABOARD!
Your hair looks great. I like the subtle body and wave it has. Very nice. Congrats on switching OP systems. Feel fortunate that you did not make the same mistake that I made. I purchased a new PC recently and it brought Windows Vista. It is terrible man. Well, Great update and Happy Birthday!
Thanks :)
I beta tested Vista RC2, or RC1, can't remember now. It's around that point in time that I realised Microsoft wasn't going to ameliorate their Operating Systems. They decided to go for the classical approach any company of that size and monopoly power would opt for: Masking the lack of features with fancy graphics. It resulted in an OS that used up a very large amount of resources (+ all the bugs). The only reason I was holding on to Windows was the gaming, and with Vista, it meant I had to invest even more money into hardware, most of which would go towards the OS itself, and not any games I would want to run on them. What's more is Microsoft's approach to blocking off DX10 for Vista only pissed me off as they were trying their old approach of forcing people into buying their new OSs, instead of luring them in with innovative features.
Around that time I also decided I would try to get away from games, so I sort of sealed my choice on a mac.
Even after your third try, I still can't see them from my computer. Nor do the links work when I try to open them manually either. Hm...
However, I do see your picture in your avatar, you have some amazing looking locks! For a year, your hair has grown extremely fast, and it looks really good as well.
Ironically, my year update is coming in 3 days. And I'm planning on doing the update on my MacBook that I will get on my anniversary. :P Hopefully, it will last me my 4 years of college. I'm thinking about just going with the 2 GHz and the 80 GB hard-drive, and upgrading the RAM to 2 GB myself, since it will be cheaper that way. I can't wait until Wednesday when I pick it up from the Apple Store. I like and know how to operate Windows like a pro, but I'm planning on switching to the MacBook for media reasons. Can't wait.
Same here all I get is Red Crosses !!!! so cant Comment on his update .......Oh well never mind.......
Axel
I really don't know what the problem is. I've tried accessing the third post from another computer and it all loaded up fine :((
Well, first of all, Happy Birthday! Second, congrats on the job. Third, the hair looks great, tailed and hanging loose. Hopefully you will be able to continue keeping it long in the future.
Carol
I'll be doing my best, thanks :)
You might want to try the link below. That is where I saw them.

Excellent progress for only a year, you are truely blessed with fast growing hair! And welcome to the board. I know you've posted a few times before but I think this is my first opportunity to say Hi. Happy Birthday and good luck with the job.
Bruce
