Hi, i'm really happy with my hair so far. It's thick, slightly wavy at the ends and just past my shoulders. I haven't had it cut since i started growing however (about 2.5 years ago) and i can notice some split ends when i hold thin strands up to the light.
I occassionaly wear a leave in conditioner, and i have been searching out and trimming individual split ends frequently since i dont wanna go to a salon. Is this a good practice to take?
Are there any other people that have grew out there hair to be really long without having any professional trims?
And also, can 'dry' hair be re-moisturized? Or is it best to be trimmed.
Thanks
Hey Nexx,
Trimming your own hair is a great thing to do. It saves money and time required to regrom all the hair that would have been trimmed when you go to a salon. I look through my hair every week or so and remove the obvious ones when I see them.
As for never having trims, I've had mine trimmed quite a few times out of ignorance. But that was years behind and I shall never return to my old ways. I think Absalom has never had his hair trimed, but I might be mistaken.
The subject of trims is very controversial with some of the members of the board, so this is just my opinion.
As for remoisturizing dry hair, I would try using different brands of conditioner. There might be a different one out there that is better for your hair type then you are currently using. Luckskind recommended Vive Pro and I have to tell you, it has been the best decision of my life to try it.
Hope this helps

Actually, the 'search and destroy' method for removing split ends is perfectly fine. You don't need a salon to trim your hair. You may want to experiment with different types of conditioning treatments to find the most effective one. I cut my own hair, saves me on salon fees. And I'll keep trimming it, as neeeded, while it grows.

Hopefully I'm not the only one to realize that this is your first post (or at least, the first post under that name) so I wish to extend to you a hearty welcome. Welcome to MLHH, hope you enjoy your stay!

I had my hair trimmed every 12 during the growing process by my trusted stylist. It took about 3.5 years to grow it to the length you see in the photo. She only cut about 1/8 to 1/4 inch each time.
I currently have a 1/2 inch trim every 6 weeks. It keeps the ends VERY healthy looking.
I just depends what you want. Do you want long and healthy hair? Or is your main goal just to have long hair, no matter what it looks like?
