*sigh*
I've been growing my hair for 3.5 years, and it really is starting to bother me now. Not that I dislike having hair; I hate short hair on myself.
It's just that it's so damaged, and uneven now. I've been straightening it for a long time, but straightening made my hair curly, instead of wavy (how it originally was). The hair up until my chin is full, thick and quite straight; but then further on, it all goes wrong. The longest hairs reach my mid-chest area, and are fairly wavy. A good portion are shorter though; many are shoulder length and very curly, and appear to be damaged. It really makes my hair look 'incomplete' and thin, even though naturally my hair is quite thick, shiny and full.
What can I do, other than cutting it chin-length and starting the process again? It's been so long, and I wouldn't want to kill the progress outright now. I have no choice but to blow dry my hair, and even though I've been doing it from far away on the cold setting, split ends return fast and I have many of them, even though I try the search and destroy method very often.
It really is demoralizing me...I want to have long, waist length hair but it almost looks like it's stopped growing, and the ends are so thin and damaged looking that it makes me want to cut it off outright. :(
i would say you need to use a super conditioning hot oil treatment. and quit using the straightening iron, for goodness sake!! if it really is as damaged as it sounds, you'll probably have to go get a few inches cut off. maybe not as drastic as chin length, but you're likely going to lose a considerable amount.
