Here is a question for those of you whose hair is at waist length or longer - did you have any trims during the time you were growing your hair? If so how often did you get a trim
i get a trim about every eighteen months. that's about the time my split ends get a bit out of control and start looking too frazzled for my taste. i also like to keep it somewhat straight across because i think it looks better, but that's a girl's perspective. most guys like it looking a bit more 'untamed' than i would like for myself.
peace,

I don't know if I exactly fall into the category of, "super longhair"; but, in any case, this is the longest my hair has ever been, --- which has taken me 7 years to get to this point (starting at a "typical men's short style", --- where the bangs are just above the eyebrows, the hair just barely touching the tops of my ears, and cut close in back at the nape of the neck)...
The only professional trims I've had in the past 7 years has been to take off about half an inch (at most). i also regularly trim off individual split ends whenever I find the little suckers (using the "Search & Destroy" method. I have no objection whatsoever to going in for professional trims; but, just for fun, have decide to see how well I can manage trimming off the split ends on my own (which is going on 3 years now).
If you go to a professional hairstylist for a trim, go to the very best stylist that $$$ can buy, --- especially if you find someone who has a longhair following (meaning, they specialize in working with long hair on both women and men). They DO exist, --- but, usually only in the big cities.
Hope this has helped!

I forgot to mention that when I did go in for a professional trim, it was usually about once a year, --- sometimes as often as every 6 months, and other times farther apart than one year (like now, for example, as I mentioned earlier, it's been over 3 years ago since my last professional trim).
Also, here's my most recent dorky pic of my hair length, --- "Tornado" hair-style included!

I used to have a self-imposed rule that I wouldn't have a trim any more frequently than every nine months, but I haven't had a trim for the last four years. At this point I don't think I will resume trimming until I can get it all to come past my belt. Right now only a few hairs in the middle are as long as that. To be able to trim it at that length is at least a year or two away, if I ever get there.
I had no trims. 2 times however because of tangles and snags I had ONLY split end hairs targeted and removed to just above the split. My ONLY cut was when my hair finally went past waist level and it was apparent that I had reached terminal. So as needed from now on I will have haircuts to keep my hair at waist level.
