Hey guys. I'm generally happy with my hair, but one section near the back of my head bothers me. Some of the hairs are pretty dry and brittle feeling, whereas most of the other lower hair and hair near the front of my head feels fine.
I suppose this could be due to a number of causes, but I never blow dry, straighten, over-shampoo, or do anything harsh to my locks. I also doubt it is due to split ends, since I can't spot any thus far. Should I just bite the bullet till its longer and then trim an inch or so, or try some different products? Any help would be appreciated from someone who has experienced similar troubles.
Peace and Happiness,
Ryan
The section you mention doesn't give me any clue, Ryan. Do you mean the crown or lower? If you don't treat your hair bad, there should be no problem or big change from the rest of the hair but anyway I'd say let it grow and see if it gets worse before cutting. ;)
Haha, sorry, I was a bit vague there. Its mostly in the crown on the back of my head. My hair is a good seven inches so far, so its a bit more noticeable than if it were shorter. I'll probably just wait it out and see how it goes. Thanks dude.
Hey, I've experienced the same sort of problem (in the same place too). The hair just below my crown tends to be corser and drier. I suspect it may be partially due to the growth pattern right around the crown (and I have wavey hair). To deal with it I've (1) stopped rinsing my hair with the crown directly under the hot water from the shower [I now tilt my head and start at the hairline and move my head up and down slowly to rinse, thus saving one spot from getting continually blasted], and (2) I'm a bit more generous with the oil/leave in conditioner in that area. Those two things seem to have helped quite a bit, and as it's become longer the problem is nearly unnoticable. Not really sure exactly WHAT caused the improvement [could have nothing to do with anything other than increased length], but as long as the routine keeps working I'll stick with it.

Excellent! Thanks a million for the advice. I too have wavy/curly hair, and the mysteries brought about by this type can be confounding for sure. Thanks again.

the dryness is probably due the hair rubbing against the pillow as you sleep. it can be counter-acted by tying your hair in a high ponytail as you sleep (atleast the back section, if possible)
Hmm... I hadn't thought of that. Cool, thanks for the advice.

Ryan, I had this prob quite a while back.
I tried a deep conditioning treatment, but to no avail.
It made my hair very hard to brush in that area.
But eventually, it just went away by unknown reasons.
I'm glad to hear the issue subsided for you. Hopefully I'll be able to look back on this slight problem some day and have a good chuckle. Thanks for the reply.
