Something strange is happening to my hair. I have never been a big fan of shampoo, having only used it once every one or two weeks for most of my life. About two months ago, I stopped using it completely, and instead rinsed it in warm water every couple days. About two weeks ago, I stopped washing it entirely. The strange thing is that even without washing it, my hair still is not greasy, and I have a LOT less dandruff now. Does anyone know why this might be?
This also marks around 1 year of solid hair growth, so I'll have pics ASAP.
Also, summer up here brings temperatures in excess of 30C (86F) (winter brings -40). This is very uncomfortable, since my hair traps so much more heat now. I'm sweating heavily and getting massive headaches at just over room temperature. Does anyone know how I can avoid this without tying my hair in a ponytail?
And finally, an update on my previous thread about my unsupportive family. They have finally accepted that my hair is my hair, and it's on my head, not theirs. My brother no longer says that I have a mullet, but that I look like Jim Morrison.

Good to hear your family is now accepting your hair.
The only explanation I can give, is that what you experience is not dandruff, but simply scalp skin peeling off at a faster than usual rate, I can't remember what it's called. The point is that most people who think they have dandruff, actually have that instead, and it's directly correlated to having a dry scalp. Now obviously, shampoo dries your hair and scalp out, and so can cause this :)
For me, it got better when I switched to normal shampoo instead of dandruff shampoo, which was especially corrosive, but I still can't quite go without shampoo at all, my hair is far too greasy after three days, although i tried.
Keep the hair growing :)
it's not that strange to see an improvement in your scalp by doscontinueing the use of shampoo. there are plenty of people on this board who do the 'water only' method who have long hair - trolleypup being the first to come to mind.
as far as the heat and headaches, i'm not sure what to tell you. where is live, 86 is winter, and right now it's about 112. i've never gotten headaches from my hair collecting heat (and it collects a LOT of it). i actually find it better to leave my hair down or in a tail at the nape of my neck, because to put it up gives me headaches from all the wieght pulling on my head. my thought would be that the headaches are caused by something else.
i'm glad to hear that your family has comes to terms with your hair. i would say being told you look like jim morrison is a definite compliment! :)
peace,

Yeah, my brothers like to either liken my appearance to a bear or a caveman. Because of the hair and the beard.
