I got the cable hooked up today. Now I can post with abandon. Woohoo! It's been an interesting few months without home internet. Wow. Three months actually. That's long enough to get a feel for life without it, and it's really not that bad.
Still though, in the long run, I'm better with it. Like anything else though, it's best in moderation. No doubt my life has been improved by it over the years; but it's good to spend time in the big blue room with the bright light in it.
Great Steve, glad to hear you're back on at home. Years ago when I was in high school, my family moved out into the country and there was no telephone service. It sounds amazing but my parents were not doing any kind of work that needed a phone and I was in school and didn't care. We got used to it and didn't miss it. I've wondered a few times if I could manage that now. Anyway, after 2 or 3 years a cable came out to where we were and we got on an 8 party line. Our ring was two shorts and a long. That was weird. All of a sudden our lives could be interrupted at any time by someone far away jangling our phone bell. it took a couple of months to get used to that. In the beginning every call seemed like an intrusion which I resented. Amazing what you can get used to not having but good you got wired up.
Wow, indoor plumbing!
Now you won't have to go out to do your Internet business!
Welcome back,
Bill
Yeah, no more trips out back through the snow in your barefeet in the middle of the night. ;)
Would that be the room with the odd smelling green carpeting and the occasionally very leaky roof?
Glad you have the most important utility installed finally :) But you still need to support your local coffee and donut shops, they are counting on you!
I know I could never do without broadband again, I get spoiled so easily. I hope all is going well out there for you Steve. Take care my friend :)
Hey Steve,
Welcome back!
When I got divorced in '87, the first thing I decided to do after moving back to the West Coast was to not buy a TV. My ex-wife had our old one, which was fine with me (since she watched more TV more than I cared to). The thing that most surprised me is that I ended up HAPPILY without owning a TV for a total of 3 years. During those 3 years was when I took tons of dance classes, regularly ran on the beach on most mornings, and danced my butt off most evenings, including almost every night after work, as well as weekends... I was slim & fit and had legs the size of tree trunks (well... maybe MODEST tree trunks - lol)!!
Now I own a nice-sized TV, have DISH, etc., play on the computer, --- and am fatter than I've ever been in my life! So, I agree with your comments that, "it's really not that bad" to live without a computer; my problem is that I've just gotten a little too used to it, --- and maybe too, "comfy" staying more at home now instead of going out and hitting that old dance floor!
Anyway, WELCOME BACK!!!
- Ken
Hey Steve,
Sounds like your all settled in. :-) Glad to hear everything is going well. How do you like it in Cali so far?
Mike
Hi Steve,
Even though I hardly know you at all, as our posts rarely cross paths, except for one or two of your updates that I have commented on (awesome hair, btw!), I would like to extend my best welcome back to you, and looking forward to seeing you on the hyperboard more. Perhaps I will be fortunate enough to meet you on my road trip to California in 2009. I already plan to meet some of my other California members at that time.
All the best,
David
