As mentioned in an earlier post regarding hair length and root strength, the Mighty Atom (Joseph Greenstein) was a vaudeville strongman in the early 1900's. After surviving, literally, a .38 caliber bullet between the eyes (indeed, he actually just stood back up and picked the flattened slug off the floor), Joe decided that he was different BECAUSE HE DECIDED TO BE DIFFERENT. As a symbol of this difference, he decided to grow his hair long, like his childhood hero, Samson. Despite his small size, he became one of the strongest men alive by learning to harness the power of his spirit, by becoming bigger than his physical body. The attached picture is of an old review of his biography, written by Ed Spielman (the guy who brought us "Kung Fu" in the 1970's). Now, I'm not advocating that anyone here run out and try to become the next Mighty Atom, but I thought you might find the article interesting. He is certainly one of the more colorful longhaired men of relatively recent history. Yeah, his style's a little goofy (poofy?), and he often wore his hair up in a bun, but remember: this was during a time when virtually NO men had long hair, so he didn't have a lot, stylistically-speaking, to go by. Enjoy!
If you want to read the article, email me and I'll send it to you.

OMG! Is this guy part of my unknown paternal heritage? The physique, the HAIR. Well it is certainly an interesting read. Thanks for posting.
