hi. i want to grow my hair out semi long. kind of like kurt cobains hair to give you an image. so i only have one problem and thats school. it cant be over eyes, ears, and the collor. well... i was thinking about a ponytail when im in school. kinda like josh holloways ponytail on lost to give you an image.
how to i deal with this ?
thanks.
Hi. You could grow your hair so it's all one length like Kurt had his, push it back behind your ears, and have it cut every so often so it stays just above your collar in the back. That would be a good starting point for growing your hair longer when you finish with that school. A ponytail would be better for growing long hair, but it sounds like the school's rules wouldn't allow it.
Its unfortunate that your school has such rules and regulations. May be you should just wait until you finish before you grow your hair
Hey, I went to a high school with the same restrictions. There really isn't much you can do, although my friend was allowed to keep long hair to hide a large scar on the back of his head. He still got a lot of grief from the administration though.
Another longhair youth being squashed by the school system...
Here is my three cents. The hair you desire will not fit under the system. Getting a good starter for the hair will not be under the system. Grooming your hair to be long but not in those areas will produce uneven strange hair pattern later and you'll have to cut and trim to get the all-over long style and then have to grow out to that length. Plus, if you keep your hair at the almost stage, you'll be stuck in the "awkward stage" and believe me, it is awkward (of course Cobain's hair was kinda permanently in the awkward stage). The problem with ponytails is that unless your hair is long, they will not grab everything. My hair is getting long but I either have stuff popping out the back or a nice poofy topknot. And so ponytails may be your personal hell if you rely on them. Gel can work but only so well.
Longhair gods and gurus, don't smite me for saying this...but you might be best keeping your hair under their guidelines and the intentions of the rule for the time being. Keep things uniform and even so when you leave the school, all of your hair will grow at the same rate and you'll get the Cobain look. I think.
AFAIK in the US only private schools can have such rules due to the 1st amendment, and in Europe article 10 of the EU Human Rights Act is supposed to protect self expression. I assume that this is a private school in the US? These details matter (and too many posters forget that there are more countries than the one they happen to be in).
I believe so. My school (K-12, unfortunately) had rules like that, and it was a private school.
It was a decent school, except that by the time I was in 6th grade, I wanted chin-to-shoulder length hair.
Of course, that never happened until about a year after graduation.
