Guys and gals,
I did a quick google search about the topic. But couldn't find any info in how to make the Samurai Hairstyle. I think sometime ago Ken posted something about this. I'd like to know what length should I have to make it and how it is done.
Thanks

You mean like the topknot they are often seen wearing? I looked around and you should try the word "chonmage" which seems to be the Japanese word for it. Seems pretty extreme though with the top of the head shaved...but the other part seems like a ponytail of sorts...
You can't see it REALLY well in this pic, but it's basically what my bud Hellboy has goin' on. Looks like you take a half tail, turn the bottom end up, and band it to itself.
The samurai hairstyle, also called the chonmage, has a topknot, and then the front of the head shaved in a "bowl" kind of. Why would you want that?!
LoL, I was not talking about the part of shaving my head!. I was talking about the high half tail with a twist or so. I'm not planning on shaving my head ever!.

This isn't actualy a samurai hairstyle. A couple of centuries ago pretty much all men in Japan wore it. It consists if shaving the front half of your head, and growing the other half down to terminal length and then braiding it.
If you really want something like this but don't want to have a half shaved head, you can always just grow your bangs as long as the rest of your hair, and then make the same braid but with all your hair in it. It's one of the styles I plan to wear when my hair reaches further than mid back :)
Not to disagree for the sake of disagreement. But my "research" uncovered something special about this hairstyle and how it was a status symbol to be allowed to wear it. Only the higher and mightier (the samurai and maybe others) were allowed to wear it. There also were a lot of comments from martial artists and masters saying that even wearing it today means something to those who know and so wearing it randomly is an insult to samurai--unless you are qualified such as kendo masters and people who actually follow bushido.
Yes,
It is not like I'm planning to wear it, I'm curious about it. Good to know, I don't wanna be insulting other people because of my ignorance. Thanks for the info.

You're probably right. My knowledge of japanese hairstyles revolves around watching samurai movies lol. A few movies that I watched, they all had the whole village wearing those hairstyles, but that won't be the first time movies get their facts wrong.
Thanks for the info.
That's what I was talking about it!. Not shaving the head but being able to make it. I share the same interest as you do. Do not forget to post a picture as soon as you can make it!

Here are some pictures I found, maybe they can help.
That went wrong, allow me to try again
Looks like a ponytail high on the head folded forward with the base of the tail secured as a bight (its a knot-tying term for something that goes in a U-shape) with the loose end forward. Doesn't look too hard...maybe it is hard to perfect.
