Hey all. I've been growing out my hair for a long time now and I want to get a new haircut with bangs. What do you suggest? I'm thinking something just a wee bit feminine - not too much, just a bit. What can I say? I'm adventurous.
Hi Joe,
Welcome to our community here.
Why don't you post a picture of your hair at the moment and perhaps make a suggestion. There is certainly nothing wrong with men having bangs/fringe with longhair and I know there have been previous comments about having bangs being too feminine. Look at people like Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden it never did him any harm. Perhaps I should just join him just to prove the critics wrong.
At the end of they day it's you hair and if you want to have bangs them go right ahead and of course need regular maintenance. Of course if once you have it cut and don't like it will take a while to grow long again.
Nothing like being adventurous.
I hope that helps and let us know what you decide.
Cheers,

Hey Joe.....wow now i have to go listen to that song!!!
This is a board advocating long hair on men, not cutting it. So the only appropriate response would be that you shouldnt cut your hair. In my mind, the longer the better.
I dont mean to sound like a butt...sorry about that.

Perhaps get ahold of photos of Rock Stars from the 70's and 80's. Look-up Punky Meadows. (This would almost be a must.) There were bangs all over the place and tons of long hair too during this period.............and the audiences loved it! Perhaps look in books at salons for "modified ideas?" You might just come up with something quite artistic, original and fun and STILL be a Longhair.
Just an example.
Is that Bruce Dickinson?
It certainly is.

A little over seven years ago I woke up one morning feeling as you just described: "adventurous." I called and made an appointment to cut the front & sides short off my then waist-length hair (to sort of "mullet-style"), but layering the back to keep a part of it long... To make a long story short, even the hairstylist did not recommend it, --- and in the long run I had to eventually cut it back to short all over, growing it out from scratch all over again.
OK, at the risk of being e-stoned to death here, I'll be even more blunt: I think long hair on a guy with bangs usually looks totally... YUCK!!!!!!!
In addition to looking YUCK, you'll have to constantly be going in for maintenance trims on your bangs, --- double-yuck!! The only longhaired guy I ever remember looking great with bangs was Kenny Loggins on the cover of his "Loggins & Messina, Best of" album, --- of course, if you look as good as Kenny Loggins (let alone sing that well), I guess you can get away with anything (lol)!

I'm going to agree with you here, I don't like bangs even on women. They rarely look good, but on men? Much worse.
You'll probably regret it and then have to go through the painful awkward stages of the front hair going in your eyes, nose and then mouth, all while you can't tie it back or put them behind your ears.
Hello, welcome !
I think I can't suggest nothing if I don't have an idea of what your hair looks. Have you a photo ?
If you want an example of bangs on a men, see Axl Rose, from Guns'n'Roses, in 1990. It didn't look bad, I think... :)
