OK, this may be a kinda silly post. I was just looking through the archives and I found that I used to be a regular poster here a few years back, but less frequently of late, for a variety or reasons.
Anyway, I came across a post I made a few years back (http://www.mlhh.org/archive/?16719), and it set off a question which I thought I would ask here.
Basically I love long hair, and have faced many struggles in growing it out to its current waist length. Hence for me it's a bit strange when people with very long hair go and cut it.
In the examples I mentioned earlier:
The car battery seller still has short, curly hair
The 2nd guy, a bicycle repairman, grew his hair again to his hips and then cut it and has kept it short since.
The 3rd guy has grown his hair again to his waist.
A 4th, not mentioned earlier, had over the last 8 years grown his wavy black hair down to his waist, and usually wore it parted neatly in the middle and tied in a bun. However, a few days ago I saw to my sorrow that he had cut it very short.
So I ask, especially the superlonghairs, if you cut your hair, would it be because
1. you got bored with it
2. someone asked/ ordered you to
3. to get a job
4. for a change
5. for health reasons
6. as a result of a bet/ dare
7. because it was too hot
8. maintenance reasons
9. any other?
So much for males. I teach adult students of both sexes, and one thing I have noticed is young ladies with lovely long hair beyond waist length (or even longer) cutting their hair, sometimes progressively shorter, and sometimes straightaway to shoulderlength or a little longer.
Sorry for the long post

10. Over my dead body, LOL!
"Been there, done that" (I cut it short in Y2K, and deeeeeeeply regretted it)!
Who? If someone was willing to hand over an obcene amount of $$$ to me, well then... I just MIGHT consider it (lol)!!
There are PLENTY of jobs not requiring me to do that, thank you!
Again, "Been there, done that!" (See my answer to your Q #1...)
Well, in order to have long hair, you have to be in at least, "decent" health... Not sure why I would have to cut it if I was sick, though.
NEVER!!!!!!!!
If I lived in the Sahara Desert, my hair might actually protect me from sunburn, --- so, the answer is NO!
I can mow my own lawn and pick up a hammer to fix maintenance problems, thank you... Oh! You're talking about maintaining HAIR here, --- well then, in that case I only cut off split ends!
Yes, the answer that electros gives below sounds like the PERFECT reason to cut one's hair off (lol)....
I agree with you, electros, --- the "Fashion Police" can do whatever they want with my hair once I'm dead, --- I'll be too old & ugly to walk down their runway even if I'm alive, anyway!

Your see right Ken, perhaps leave your hair medical science and better than the fashion police. Look at me I ad a brush with the runway at a metal festival as you kindly commented about. I had to remove the brown paper bag for that one!
Cheers,

First of all I am not a superlonghair but thought I'd still put in my three cents. I'd cut my hair for a couple reasons.
For the right person (i.e. girl) I might cut it; of course one might say that the right person would not require a haircut of their significant other. Still, if she looked past it along the whole path of getting to know me and far into the friendship if she spoke to me sweetly and kindly and really desired me with short hair I might consider it. Of course, I am sure she'd make a change if I desired it that much.
Again, for the right cause, I'd cut my hair. If enough money was raised and donated to the right charity, I'd get it cut if there was no better way to get that donation. Do not have a dollar amount in mind so do not ask.
As a tangent to the last one, if there was a good friend who lost her hair, all of her hair, I would consider somehow finding a way to have all of my hair cut and transformed into a wig for her.
I'd cut it if it was required to perform my job, the right job. Not if the employer decided to require short hair but if long hair was a danger or prevented work.
Perhaps some others but not as a whim or change. And not for small reasons.
I would cut my hair off if I was paid for it. Lets say £100000 and I might decide to cut it.
Having grown it long again there is no way. no price no reason that I will ever lay scissors on my hair again EVER.
Forget charity, sympathy, women, men. jobs, forget them all. None provide reason.
Slefish why yes - and proud of it.
thats the only reason i can think of too lol
Hey: The last time I cut my hair was when my younger (and only) brother was deployed to Iraq. It was a "bonding" thing. He shaved my head and I his! I never regretted it but missed my long hair almost immediately and never cut it again. I haven't seen him in about 25 months. He made it back safely but lives across the country from me now. Bruce'ster ...
Thats cool dude. I think that is something your brother will never forget... thanks for sharing..
Tristan..
Has he seen your re-grown hair??
Hey Tristan: Yeah, he's seen some pictures of it but he's like, "So when are you going to cut your hair." Plus his wife is always telling me to cut it too. That kind of sucks. You'ld think HE would cut me some slack. Afterall we used to surf and hang together in the old days and I had long hair on and off. He's pretty conservative (hair wise) I guess. Stands to reason since he's in the Navy. Then again I'm sure there are lots of Navy dudes who wish they could grow it and do as soon as they get out. B.
Hey B..
Yeah ... maybe your brother will let it grow after he gets out. Once I got out of the service it took me almost ten years to realize; "Hey! You don't have to wear it like this anymore !!!" LOL
Glad to hear your brother is back safe..
Peace man...
