Like, what the hell is that supposed to mean? I've seen a lot of users here commenting on how shiny ones hair is.
Doesn't shiny hair mean that's it's oily? -_-; And why on earth would anyone comment on oily hair?!
Something that's been annoying me for a while. That is all.
Sometimes i'm wondering about that too, for example if i put Brylcreem in my hair or any similar kind of gel it gets that nice shine, but then it's not natural shine.
But the hair will get shiny from certain shampoos + conditioners as well.
In my case, it might be the graying strands (and I am only 21 or 22) which I call my "natural highlights".
But from my understanding, the shine is a natural feature of healthy hair. Hair is made of keratin, the same protein as fingernails and hooves (well, different proteins but same group). And if nails and hooves are an indication, then shiny hair would make sense if fingernails are shiny. Now, non-shiny hair might be covered with dirt and grime or might have an interrupted surface texture somehow and so shiny hair may be an indicator of hair that extends with a smooth shape without things coating it.
Of course oil and other substances also shine. And so shine can be oil and other stuff as well. And so some people have shine remedies other than hair health, I guess.
the shine from oil or gels is completely different from healthy hairs natural shine. my hair is so shiny in natural sunlight that it can be almost blinding, and it certainly isn't oily.
The shine shows that your hair is healthy and well taken care of. :)
The laudation that shiny hair is a compliment is because clean, healthy, non-damaged hair catches the light and has a certain sheen that is an indicator of well-grown hair, un-processed, natural, and easy to look at as well.
Yes, oily hair does shine, but not many guys post picture of themselves with oily (greasy) hair here to get it to shine for that purpose alone.
That's what the hell it's supposed to mean.
Some people choose to use an Apple Cider Vinegar rinse on their scalp/hair, which adjusts the pH of your scalp, thus making your hair shinier to varying degrees. But yeah, shininess is usually just an indicator of well-cared-for hair.
Peace,
Ryan
Hmm, that does make sense.
Thanks.
PS. I've noticed that people with jet black hair get the most shine. Is it because of the color of the hair aswell?
