Hey everybody.
I have hair down to my lower back and I am thinking on continuing growing it longer.
I however got a mohawk done about 2 months ago. My wide mohawk is still the down to my lower back but my sides are buzzed.
I didnt want to lose my length but I also wanted to try buzzing too. I've had thoughts about getting my hair buzzed down all over because I am also starting to like that look, as well as the shaved head look too. So I got a combination of both styles, buzzed and long hair. Its easier to fuction because the sides down fall down into my face when I am active. I like that part and that I look even more alternative and it gets attention. Maybe beacause a man in his 40's doesnt usually get a mohawk? I'm fortunate that my job has no hair policy for men which allowed me to have long hair all this time and to do the mohawk with ease.
I am fighting thoughts of finishing it off and buzzing the long mohawk hair down to shaved or buzzed stubble or growing the sides out again to match the mohawk thickness.
Which leads me to the question for you all any advice I can get.....
If I should decide to grow my sides out long and keep growing my hair, In order to grow my sides out to match the rest of the longer hair.....
-should I just let it grow out to catch up to the mohawk?
-will it look bad during the growing out process?
-will I have to cut all the hair off and start growing it out again?
I like having long hair, I'm in my 40's and I've had long hair for over 25 years, though I love it, I have also been liking the military buzz and shaved head look the last year or so and I've been torn which to do.
My boyfriend, Jim (also in his 40s)has a shaved head which I talked him into doing because he had mpb and since I think mpb makes guys look older and does not look good, I told him he might as well go all the way for the better look. He did and he loves it. Now he has been trying to convince me to join him as bald. He looks really hot and I love him and he wont make me do it if I dont want to, but the problem is part of me wants to.
When we met, he liked my long hair. at my age, I'm lucky to have a full thick head of hair because I know guys my age and younger who already are losing their hair. I would tease Jim and say I would cut my hair and he would plead with me not to and I would tell him that I was teasing, but after being together 3 years he says he would like to see me buzzed only because he thinks it would look hot to see full head of buzzed stubble and people would still know I have a full head of hair.
Either way he will support me. I'm not worried about us.
Anyways I have to decide what I will do, but if I need to know if it will look good while the sides grow out or if I have to cut...etc.
Well this came from my thoughts as I was typing so it may not be composed in proper order, but this is my dilemma and I would appreciate all fedback possible.
I'm at the crossroads of 50% staying with long hair and 50% losing all the hair. I like both worlds. HELP!
Thanks. You are all great.
Eric
Eric,
I think it would look tacky trying to grow out to meet the hawk-it would never catch up. Youcould leave it like it is or buzz and start all over or buzz and stay buzzed. I'd probably let the sides grow a little while gradually trimming the hawk. You might end up with something in the middle you can live with. Take care. AJ
Good answer AJ, thats what I would have said too.
Good luck anyway Eric - let us know what happens!!
It depends. How do you wear your hair the most? If you wear it
down a lot then growing the sides out would be a minor deal and
not very noticable.
If you use a ponytail a lot then you would have a certian
"awkward stage" to go through until the side hair gets long
enough to reach your ponytail holder.
I would do it either way because I would hate to lose the length
and it would seem like an eternity to grow it out from a buzz
cut. plus you would have to go through the awkward stage with
all your hair then.
And, to be very blunt, if you are in your forties, and you want-
ed to grow it out again, well, time is getting precious for
both you and your hair.
Good luck with whatever you decide!!
I am biting my tongue as I type this reply, because I find Mohawks and shaved heads about as attractive as looking at baggy-eyed, hacking, sallow-skinned chain-smokers. But, since, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" (and "personal taste" is all a matter of opinion), I will indulge you with an answer by PRETENDING that I would wake up some morning to find that I had somehow foolishly given myself a Mohawk the night before...
First, after sobbing and wailing uncontrollably for hours (actually, probably more like days & weeks which would turn unconsciously into months & even YEARS...), once I'd come back to my senses and return to behaving more like the sober self I'm used to being, I'd realize that, for me at least, there's only one logical solution to my idiotic Mohawk dilemma: cut it short so I can start growing my long hair all over again... BUT, not before throwing myself one obnoxiously wild & crazy, big, opulent party, where I'd invite all my friends over to mousse, dye, and spike up my hair for tons of splashy photos to remember my decisions of drunken stupor by... And THEN shave my head!
There. Did I remain tactful enough, while still honestly answering your question? (Remember, the above answer was the version WITH, "biting my tongue!")

You're all wrong, beauty isn't in the eye of the beholder, it's in the eye of the beer-holder! :P
