Does this mean the "boy band" look is on its way out (finally)?
Hello Everyone,
It seems a cycle of history repeats itself:
10 years ago, in the early 90's we were going into a recession, and we were in a war like atmosphere, and we saw lots of long-haired models in magazines and long-haired actors on TV shows.
Funny to say, we should expect a more conservative style in tense moments.
I work as a computer technician at Universite du Quebec, and I sport very long hair myself. I notice that the long hair count at my workplace is up from last year. In the Earth Sciences dept, there are lots of guys with shoulder length hair or longer. There are still a lot of buzz cuts, but they seem to be going out of style.
Being 42 years old, I have seen styles change, and this is the third upswing in long hair I have seen since the seventies. In the 80's the 'power cut' was in style, and from 1983 to 1989 long hair was a rare sight in the streets. In 1989 long hair came back timidly, lots of mullets, and short pony tails that grew below shoulder length by 1990-1991. The "efficient" buzzed look seems to have started around 1995-1996 and really caught on by 1998-1999. Contrary to the short-haired period of the 80's, in the late 1990's, nobody bugged me about my looks. In the university, it is bad to judge people for their looks.
I will take a look at the GQ, however, I am not a fashion victim who spends hard-earned paycheques on clothing. However it is pleasing to the eye to see good looking men with long hair.
Have a nice day,
Georges in Montreal.
