Seems like the longer my hair gets now, the less style it has. Just ponytail every day, blah blah. I mean what about texture, different lengths, framing the face or anything like that that might make it look better when down, or to give more style. No, it's all got to be long enough to get into a ponytail and stay there because anything else is unacceptable for men, apparently, unless we're flamboyant or rock stars.
I am just venting! AAARHG!
Do whatever you want to do :)
I conceed that you're right
It's like a test of personal strength
To resist pressure felt from the outside
A lot of guys here seem to experiment with braids and half-tails. Then, you're hair's still fastened but it's a change. Just ask yourself, what style do you feel like?
Be yourself,

It's just fashion. Back in the '70s long layered cuts for men were absolutely the norm (more normal than short hair back then). In the '80s there were mullets instead (long at the back, short everywhere else)! It's just about being up to date, but really that's not important. Have whatever style you like.
'One length' and 'blunt cut' hair happens to be 'in' for male long hair right now. As it happens, that suits my hair type (fine, thin and wavy) much better than layering did in the '70s (no, I didn't have a mullet in the '80s!). With layered hair I had to comb it every five minutes, and it still wouldn't stay put!
OTOH, if YOU like layered hair, then why not go for it? It's more important to have a style that you like than something that is fashionable. In fact, if you have long hair, then it is not actually possible to follow normal fashion cycles (short of getting hair extensions or a wig) as it takes longer to grow than that.
As for a ponytail, whoever told you that you have to wear one all the time? I wear my hair loose most of the time, sometimes I wear a ponytail, and sometimes a braid. It's up to you.
You make good points, Electro
I probably will give a bit of layers a try
I am not digging the all one length blunt cut too much
I mean I don't want a lot of layers, I just don't like the look of long sheets of hair around my head, I'd like some more angles, volume, etc not like some 80s band but more like a lot of women have theirs
like, excuse this photo of Shakira hehe, its first I found from my hard drive
Main problem I forsee is having a bit of hair at the front of my head that won't go in a low ponytail when I need it to, obviously with the options they have (high tail, pins, etc) its not asn issue with women
I guess I told that to myself, as it's the most convenient way to do it when I am at work, or doing my sports
This picture of Sophie Marceau's hair was actually what I was going for originally with my growth, I just went beyond largely out of unwillingness to trust Korean hairdressers while I was overseas
That picture of Shakira looks pretty good, but I don't think it's just her hair that attracts me! Mind you, it looks like it's been retouched quite a bit, certainly you can tell that's not how the photo was when it was taken.
My hair used to look really good layered, at least right after I combed it. Five minutes later it would be a mess. IMHO layers work better if your hair is fairly thick, which mine never has been. Hair stylists like to do layers whatever your hair type, because it allows them more creativity, but it doesn't work for everyone. It always look good when you leave the salon, but the real test is how it looks after you wash it!
It's a good idea to tell the stylist that you still want it to be able to go into a ponytail. Otherwise, if you are crawling around under the car or operating power tools it will be a hassle. Unless of course you never do anything like that, but most guys do.
You're quite right, I could have used a more natural photo as an example.
Have any photos?
Definitely
I'll give it some time before I do anything
I do have some old photos with shoulder length layered hair, but not accessible to me right now. I'll try and post something later. These would have been taken some thirty years ago, so I look a lot different, not just because of the hair!
