ok, here is the deal, I have an oily scalp and dry ends, I apply conditioner to the ends only , and only shampoo the scalp, and that helps a lot. There is still a problem though, if I go for more than 2 days without washing (or just water washing) the scalp again becomes oily. Is there anyway to remove oil from the scalp without washing?
thanks in advance
Hi Dave M,
This is what works well for me...
I often apply a little bit of beneficial oil (like Kukui nut oil, Almond oil, or Jojoba oil) into my hair ends, massaging it in a bit, then finger-combing it through. Always start carefully untangling the ends and lower portion of your mane, first; then gradually work your way up towards the hair nearer the scalp. Once you are sure there are no more snarls and snags, then what I do is brush the entire length of my mane with long strokes from head to crown. This does several things: 1) it stimulates the scalp, causing blood to rush up to nourish the hair roots; 2) it helps to trtansfer the scalp's natural oils down the hair shaft (towards the ends, where it is needed the most), and; 3) it just plain feels great!!
I only do this type of brushing when my hair is completely DRY (hair is weakest and most likely to snap when wet). My grandmother's generation of longhaired women used to refer to brushing, "100 strokes" before going to bed at night. I never actually count up to that specific # (lol - I'm too lazy); but, I do continue brushing until probably pretty near to that many times, --- and oddly enough, the hair near my scalp doesn't feel as greasy as it did before doing that brushing ritual!
Everybody is different, --- and everybody's hair is different... I've heard that really curly-haired guys, for example, don't do this type of brushing, because they lose or break too many hairs in the process. But, for me, this ritual easily helps me extend my time between shampooings (I average about 3 - 4 days, once in awhile 5 full days between shampooings).
Hope this info helps!
