I missed doing my 2-year progress report in May. But here is a pic of my progress to date
Enviable! Gray is good.

Your hair looks, in one word ... SUPERB!!!!
Thank you, oh ye who is always keeping me going...
I'm back on track wouldn't you say?
Your hair is way more than just "on track"! Amazing growth for 27 months (although I'don't know where you started from). Anyway, you should be quite proud and I look forward to future updates. You have some of the most beautiful hair I've ever seen. Count on me to be one of your cheerleaders!
That is a great head of hair and I appreciate your letting the change of colour happen naturally.
AND
That is one AWESOME moustache! I've only known 3 people to grow a succesful handlebar. Fantastic!
Shawn
Thanks Shawn.
I'm quite surprised to receive this much appreciation for the handlebar on this forum.
Very dapper William! Excellent length and condition for 2+ years!
Keep on growin'
Bruce
Bruce,
Since I've been growing it out from a layered cut, I've been trimming the longer layers to allow the shorter ones to catch up. I've probably taken out 4 inches (8 cm) over the last year.
You look like some important dignitary that should be engraved on the face of some paper currency. Nice handlebar stache!
Carol
The Confederate $2 bill perhaps?
I've got such handlebar-envy. I've browsed the entire handlebar-club website wishing I could get something thick enough now. I've got at least another year before I can start. I love handlebars. That look is fantastic. Nice hair growth!!
Wow...hard to believe I could be the ob ject of handlebar-envy. You've made my day!
GREAT pic (and even nicer mane - lol)!!!!
Hey, I replied to your post to me on the board here a couple of weeks ago, --- as well as used the mailer system to e-mail you; AND sent you an e-mail from home... Maybe I have an old (no longer correct) e-mail address for you or something?
Anyway, I will try again to reach you. If I don't hear from you by Sept. 1st, let me know if you are still unable to get through to me by replying on the board here...
Thanks, William!
- Ken
PS - Are you going to the Sundance Stomped this year? I am; but haven't yet purchased my ticket (lol)!!
Ken,
Glad you liked the pic. I have explained in a separate e-mail the situation with the non-responses to your messages.
As of Stompede, yes, I'll be there! In fact, have gone from the standard 'stache to handlebars and soul patch specifically for Stompede.
Your hair is lovely. Keep growing it for sure.
Scott
Fantastic !!
The look you now have is what my goal has been......
Unfortunately my hair is very slow growing, thin and thinning.....and my job has a restriction on facial hair (safety). Oh well, retirement looms....
Your length, colour and stash are all wonderful !!
Thanks for Sharing
Walter White Tail
Thank you Walter. The "General Custer" comment is not too far off the mark. I ditched the Just for Men for the 'stache, grew out the handlebars and soul patch specifically for a Country/Western dance convention in October (see my message to Urban Cowboy).
Hi William,
Your hair looks absolutely fabulous, and what amazing progress for 26 months. You have incredibly thick and healthy hair, and it should be easy to grow it to your waist or longer if you choose to do so. Keep up the GREAT growth!
All the best,
David
David,
This is my second journey with growing hair. The last time I grew it for 4 years before losing my mind and cutting it (in 2005). Before the cut, it was past my ribcage and showing no signs of thinning. So, yeah, I'm pretty sure I could do waist length.
Excellent update, You show us all that as the grays come in we can still look really good if not better. When I was 30 and the first long gray hairs emerged I was asked by a friend "when they go gray are you gonna cut it cause that will look weird?" My reply was no I don't think so. Spin the clock forward and today I like my hair even more with the gray in it.
Thanks for the update
Kevin
Kevin,
Thanks for the compliment. My hair seems to be graying on the top and even more on the temples, but not much on the back. some of the dark locks you see on my shoulders come from the back where there is hardly any gray at all. Bottom line is, at age 52, I'm thrilled to have this much hair regardless of the color!
hey William, what a great look, the head and facial hair are just sensational!!
Regards Dave
*27* months.
(yeah...got a math degree and can't do arithmetic...)
William, Wonderful handlebars. A most handsome man!
peace, jonalbear
Thank you and ditto!
Very impressive hair ! Keep growing ! I like the shape of your moustache (even if I don't like have a moustache :)
Bye
Vivien
Very impressive indeed. Very distinguished too.
Greetings William:
That's what I'm talkin about! Wow, great head of hair. Talk about motivating...well done!
Cheers,
Max L.
Max,
I'm pleased that I can provide motivation to you. I'm sure it's because I'm older and wiser(lol) Seriously, just keep at it. You are nearly through the worst part of growing your hair. It gets so much easier after the first year.
Great update William. The stache and the hair look awesome.
Hey William: The hair and stash look great You show LOTS of progress when compared to your avatar. And, as a few of the other "age-groupers" have pointed out...the grey looks really nice and certainly should not be a deterant to growing one's hair long.
Stay comfy in that chair...Bruce'ster
Thanks Bruce. There is a 15 months difference between this photo and the avatar. As for the gray, I get only positive comments on it - even from the other "age-groupers".
What a super-cool handlebar!
Cool hair too.
Thanks a lot guy! I do catch people staring at it.
How are things down in my future home?
I forgot, yes, you said once you had a place down here in GA.
The usual -- hot, humid, afternoon thunderstorms, the sound of cicadas in the pines looking through the distortion of heat waves...
I'm a city boy. What's a "swamp gypsy"?
One of his previous posts that has since gone to archive...
http://www.mlhh.org/archive/?196000
Basically in a nutshell, he is a fan of longhaired men with big thick long mustaches...and your hair and 'stache do match his description and drawing of the "swamp gypsy" style he is looking for...
Ah. I do see the resemblance to the drawing. Still, I never thought of myself as an archetype before...
Amazing how they can colorize those wonderful old black and white tintypes nowadays :)
Wow! William that is quite simply one stunning picture man. You look INCREDIBLE. Everything comes together perfectly in this pic. This should not only be your new avatar but it would make on hell of a painting! You are quite the distinguished and cultured gentleman. Exceptionally classy hair and facial hair style there William :)
Wow Chris, thank you! I'm going to accept the compliments rather than dwell on the idea that your compared me to an antique (lol)
