today was my first day of college the hours are short the teachers are cool but omg so so so so much work but what i came to say is college is like a long hair utopia there were long hairs from all backgrounds white black asian hispanic its a huge change from my old private catholic school thought id share :{ ]
Congrats on college. I just graduated in May. Good that you are among longhaired friends.
Just remember to go to classes, do your homework, study hard, and get to know your professors well.
Congratulations on your first day of college. I cannot remember my first day, lol. I am sure it was quite hectic. I am sure you will do well, longhairs are naturally gifted ;)
We had only one longhair at the community college I first went to, it wasn't a huge school though. I also remember the overwhelming shock of going from a small community college to our state university a few years later, it was as you said a change with so many students of all nationalities and languages, quite astounding! I am glad you fit in so nicely there.
Be fair to the other students and try to keep those super powers to yourself ;)
College is a great way to meet loads of people with similar interests so I am sure you will find a General Zod fan to do battle with. Have fun..study too lol
Congratulations, too! Yeah, colleges are full of longhairs. When I was there this summer (for registration) there was about 1/3 of them and the faculty ground was thick with IQ. I will arrive there after two weeks since now and I look forward to this tollerant and intensely intelligent atmosphere.
I hope you've got a good place to stay, usually the best colleges are taken by guys from higher grades. That is, what happened to me, I'm even not sure about a place for desktop and a reasonable internet access. (snoring-proof earplugs already bought)
Well, enjoy a contact with people from other cultures, its gonna be very interesting! As far as I know, I'll have a Slovak guy at the room (dunno who'll be the third) which is not quite an other culture, while my dad is Slovak too. It is quite crazy, talking with my brothers in one language, talking with my mom and grandma in local dialect and slovak with dad.
Yeah, the college is gonna make some things easier. And some things much harder, considering its a studying of informatics.
Remember what Chef said on South Park, "There is a time and place for everything and it is called college." :-)
kal el, College Yes I think I remember! It was 35 yrs ago! Good luck with your studies and have fun!
peace, jonalbear
Congratulations on having a successful first day at college. It's a special time in your life, like no other that you've had before or will have after you graduate. Study hard, play safely and please do enjoy your experiences.

College is Where many grow their hair long, when I lived in Madison WI I used to hang out with friends on State street (near the University) and there was too many to count I loved the atmosphere there and do miss it sometimes. Sadly many upon graduating and getting swallowed by the corporate monster cut their hair and become drones. luckily a few go on to careers where they keep their hair and humanity intact.
Good luck in school and if we don't hear too much from you we'll know your probably burried in books, working on papers etc.
Take Care
Kevin
College is soooo different from high school. You do have more freedom, but you have more responsibility too. And while Catholic schools might be restrictive, Catholic colleges are less so. The university near me is Roman Catholic, and I've seen a few longhairs among the students, even an odd seminarian or two!
Carol
Catholic college recent alum here...and you see my hair is long...long as God will grow it...in the time I have given Him...
That's awesome, man! I'm in my third year of college now. There used to be more longhairs in my first and second years, but most of them either left or cut their hair. Right now, if I were to straighten my hair, I might be the longest-haired male on campus, lol. It'd feel cool, but kinda depressing at the same time.
But yeah - there are always guys with different hairstyles at college, which is why it's so cool to just observe all the people around you. Dreadlocks, devil locks, braids, rat tails, pigtails, dyed bangs, everything.
Hope you enjoy college!
Peace

Congratulations. I don't remember the first day at UNC CH, but I do remember that college was a jolt after HS. Obviously I made it, on to two Master's and one PhD., but not without some anxiety along the way, to say nothing of hard work.
On thing I learned and want to share. Always sit on the side, in the 3rd. or 4th. row, so you can turn around to see who ever speaks behind you. Sitting close is an advantage for the prof. will see you. But make sure you speak on the firsr, second or their day of class, even it it is an inane question, for having heard your own voice the anxiety about participation in that class will disappear.
Go for it. The world gets more and more complicated, and if we are going to survive as a species, we've got to learn all we can about the world, and how to cooperate with all other peoples, and other species as well.

Kal el, good luck with college! Once your are in college its
all up to you. But I have faith in you. I think you will
succed in whatever you try!
Hi Kal El,
Thank you for shring your first day of college with us, and I wish you all the best, and 100% success in the yaers ahead, as you prepare for the road of life. A college education is absolutely priceless.
As for my first day, that was a LONG, LONG, time ago, back in September of 1971! I remember there were lots of lines, we had to register in person back then, and also register for each class as well, so registration day was a long and gruelling one. On the first day of classes, my first one was a first year chemistry class. What was cool is that the prof who was in the classroom when I walked in had exceptional long hair, perfectly straight and longer than any of the students. Sadly, however, he was the teacher of the class immediately before mine, and was not my actual professor of my first year class. However, I DID have him for my second year organic chemistry class the following year, and he was an EXCELLENT teacher!
Hopefully, you will be able to look back in another 35 years or so and have memories of your own, of your first day.
Take care, and best of luck,
David
I started my first year on college (or maybe it's called upper-secondary school here), about 3 years ago in the autumn of 2004 and i remember that i was quite nervous the first day, seeing as i've known my old classmates for about 10 years and then got new ones, but after a few days i got accustomed to it:)
And it was surely a difference from the primary school, you had to take a lot more own resposibility over everything and such.
But we didn't had too much work actually, cause we worked alot with the computers and such, i was studying a course called marketing media:)
And here in our schools there's many many longhairs, especially the ones that play in a band or something:D
Anyway, thanks for sharing your impressions of your first day on college!
Simon
In addition to what others have said, good luck of course, and the main thing is too keep up with your work and not get behind. The teachers try to cover everything in one semester, so it takes a lot of preparation on your part too -- like being sure to read everything before class and then asking good questions that contribute to class discussions and so on. I'm sure you'll do fine!
Thank you all so very much for such great great support hair wise and life wise theres nothing that could possibly keep me from continuing posting and keeping up with this site i do have to apologize that i don't have the time to respond to all of you individually college is a laid back environment for a reason they give you enough work to take home lol thanks again my long haired brethren you'll never know how grateful i am for finding such an amazing bunch of people take care :{ ]
