What exactly is the truth or the myths behind these ideas of male long hair.
1)Long hair falls out quicker than short hair
2)Frequent ponytails make the hair in the center of your scalp fall out.
and
3) wearing hats makes your hair fall out.
Thanks
That one's definitely a myth. Even though it can seem like you lose hair faster as it gets longer, you're actually shedding the same number of hairs per day you always did, but it's a lot more noticible now because the individual hairs are so much longer and therefore show up more. Everyone sheds, it's no big deal. The rate at which you shed is not determined by the length of your hair, but by things like your health/nutrition, stress (maybe ... some people say stress makes hair fall out, others say it doesn't), and your own genetics.
I can't say for certain about the other two, but I'm guessing they're myths as well. There may be a little bit of truth to #2 however since a ponytail worn too tight ( or tied with rubberbands or those hair ties with the little metal peices ) can pull out and/or break hair.
Now Kei, here's what I know:
Wrong. Shirley had already correctly clarified on this point (or rather myth).
Partly true. By putting your hair in ponytail itself do not cause hair loss, but by always pulling a tight ponytail could result in the progressive loss of your front hairs, which might cause a receding hairline. This is known as Traction Alopecia. It may be temporary or permanent.
Also, partly true. Hair follicles, like all body cells, require oxygen for survival and thrives best under adequate air supply. Hence, if you were to wear an overly air-tight hair, all day long without removing it, it might effectively "suffocate" your hair follicles and thus, resulting in slowed hair production or even worse, "death" in the follicle. Hair loss and balding then follows. For this case, once a follicle "dies", it is irreversible.
FYI,

not sure... I have heard that men with long hair and a fast rate of hair loss have severely slowed the rate after cutting their hair short. Whether the rate would have slowed had they not cut their hair anyway is impossible to tell.
false: If the ponytail is worn loosely, and not tugged at to make it TIGHT throughout the day, there is no appreciable difference in the rate of hair loss.
false: The hair follicle receives its oxygen from an adequate, well nourished blood supply. Everything that is required for healthy hair comes from inside the body. It's possible to make unhealthy hair look better with certain conditioners, etc. However, the hair is still damaged.
Thanks
You're welcome
