Hey guys..... and a few gals;
I was talking with my wife the other day... and she informed me that our son had told her sister that "daddy is growing his hair out". The sister lives way across the country from us.
Now; it wasn't like it was a big secret or anything; but none of her family has seen me in over a year.
Here's the question for you long haireds that have experienced this.. what type of reaction do you get when you see people for the first time with your hair when A) they know you're growing it out.... compared to B) they didn't have a clue that you were growing it?
Just wondering .... I would really prefer the totally surprise factor if possible.. but it looks like the cat may be out of the bag. :(
Be Blessed..

If they call and ask about your hair, just tell them you have been toying with the idea of having shaggy hair;)
When they finally see what your idea of shaggy is they will be shocked. I did this to my family and it worked like a charm.

Well, since I've had short hair for virtually my entire life, I suppose I can weight in on this.
Last March at about 8 months of growth I saw some friends that hadn't seen me since the 1/2 inch buzz cut. They were very surprised, and it was fun to see their reactions. "It's great to see you." [Hug] "Your hair!" We all started laughing and they ruffled my hair up quite a bit. :-)
Last October I visited some friends and told them I was growing it out (it certainly wasn't very long then, only three months in). While I talk with them regularly, I haven't mentioned the hair again and I'm curious to see if they remember when I visit again this October.
I kinda hope they don't...surprises are fun.

Hey Mouse..
Thanks for responding. I have to be honest ... I was pretty disappointed when I found out my "secret" had been shared with my wife's family ... but I guess it'll still be pretty surprising when they actually see it next year sometime. I'll probably just play it down if it comes up again...
I'm glad your friends liked your hair. ... Aren't you do for another update soon??
Be Blessed..

Yeah, I've been avoiding telling anyone about my ever-lengthening mane specifically to enjoy the surprised reaction. At a large potluck one afternoon back in May, a gentleman that I hadn't seen in a year wandered over to say "Hi" to some of the people I was hanging out with. I said, "Hi," he responded in kind, and then he did a double-take when he actually recognized me. :-)
It can be hard, though, if family ruins the surprise for you. :-(
I hope you get plenty of chances to surprise friends and family at other points, and I can understand the dissapointment at this time.
I'm planning to update sometine in the next couple weeks. Thank you for asking!

Hey Tristan. On my first few days of university this past week, I got no less than five comments from associates/friends on the seemingly dramatic difference in my hair length, and the funny thing is, I had seen all of these people about four months ago!
Since we've been growing our hair for approximately the same amount of time, expect to get a few reactions to varying degrees regarding your hair, even with a "heads up" (or a "hair down"!) beforehand.
Peace,
Ryan
