Hey Guys (and a few gals)..
I'm at the point of attempting a small ponytail. However; I have some neck hair that is only about 1-2 inches long that comes down my neck pretty far .... what do you do with that?
shave and keep it trimmed up in back?
ignore?
Please send advice...

I occasionally trim my neck hair, because it really causes me to look like a gorilla. However, if you do decide to cut the neck hair, leave at least 1/2 a inch, so you don't accidentally cut non-neck hair. That's my 2 cents, though some of the veteran longhairs might be able to give you better advice.
Shave very carefully up to the hair line. Every week or so .
I leave it and bear it since when I have shaved it before it was terribly uncomfortable feeling in a day or so when it immediately began to grow back. I think it may look cleaner with a bare neck, but I have a bear neck, so why fight it?
That neck hair also bugged me a bit when i had long hair, although i never shaved it, i just let it stay there, because when you hair gets longer that hair should probably fit in the tie if you tail it lower, or that's what i think at least.
Having a nice ponytail and then seeing a bunch of sloppy neck hairs that aren't going to be the hairs that grow long anyway seems to myself to detract from the great look of a fine ponytail. I keep my neck clean for when I put my hair in a ponytail.
But ea. to their own. Some guys apparently love hair on their neck.
Do what you like the look of best and enjoy.
I think the point Justin makes is an important one to understand: Those annoying, wispy little neck hairs will NEVER be like the fine long cranial hairs we're all striving to grow and maintain. They're completely different animals, more akin to the fur on your chest than the hair on your head. Unless you want a visible "neck bush" when you wear your hair in a ponytail, I'd recommend keeping them shaved/ trimmed, but do so carefully.
In the end, though, this is just my opinion. Do what makes you happy :)
Hi Tristan,
Guys on the board have different opinions on the whispy stuff at the back of your neck. I tend to leave my hairs because 1. my whispy neck hair isn't that bad and 2. because like bragi has pointed out after shaving it off some people can feel some irritation. It all depends on wether you consider your hair bad enough to shave it of or not.

Thanks guys for the input..
I think after reading the below posts; I tend to agree with Justin as far as the appearance goes... I'll carefully trim the neck line and see how it looks and feels... if it doesn't work out well; then I'll just leave it be...
Thanks for everyone's input...

Hey Tristan,
Good question. You'll remember seeing the style, even on guys who cultivate long hair and fasten their hair back in pony tails (on occasion), of a very shorn short inch or so at the back bottom of the hairline.
Methinks this was and is an outgrowth of shaving, to the hair follicle, the neck scrub, or fuzz. To "wax" it away or not is really up to one's own personal expression and aesthetic.
This summer at the beech, sunning in their fold-out chaise lounge chairs, I overheard an overly tanned young wife posit a query to her husband, as she brushed sand out of his neck hair, "Honey? When're ya get get rid o' this awful fuzz?" He just shrugged.
The way I look at it, Pastor Tristan, is that the Creator made me fairly hirsute; I have a hairy neck, torso, legs, and upper arms (moreso than my forearms even), so, why bother. It's prickly and itchy growing back, as certain people can attast to here. Your call, but I ain't gonna bother.
Blessed Be,
Quenyan
