Hi everyone,
I just got myself a second job, and sadly, they require keeping the hair off the shoulders. Just found that out on my first day today. Damn.
I then attempted to put it in a bun but it kept falling out. I never put it in a bun (not to mention it's so thick it's very difficult) so I have no experience at doing so. I probably looked really stupid today, but oh well.
So.. if anyone has any tips on getting it tight, or at least having it look right (centered), let me know...
Or, any other ideas of keeping it up. No, I do not want to look like Princess Lea.
Okay, well I'm getting better at from just practicing, here's a few pictures...
It still looks really low, and, well, thick. lol... I'll get there, I guess!
And gosh my skin looks horrible, damn scars from stupid conditions!! =(
Mmm maybe I will show up looking like Princess Lea.. *reconsiders* lmao
I cannot think of any reason that the employer would say this is not acceptable. Sure looks fine to myself and reminds me of what one very longhair here in town does with his hair while on the job.Ah Ah! You ought to see him the minute he leaves the place and lets his hair down as he tears out of there.
I assume it is Acne and plagues millions. I dr. can vanish it with medication, but short of that, perhaps just get some make-up that is skin coloured and just dab it on the areas to cover up. Works quite well and is very easy to do. Will make the condition "look" about 90% better.
Best of luck to you.
Thanks for the advice, Justin.
The condition is a bit more serious than acne, but, on the 10th I'm going to a specialist downstate, yay.
Google is your friend. I found this video which demonstrates a basic bun made from twisting a ponytail, then wrapping it. You could also braid a tail, and wrap the tail into a bun as well.
When I had to wear my long hair up for a job, I simple folded it up and fastened it with a large barette or hair clip. Much quicker and easier than a bun. To do this, pull hair back into a tail. Starting at the ends, while holding them between your fingers, start to wrap or roll hair over hand. Alternateing from one hand to another, keep folding it towards head. When it is flat against your head, secure with a clip or other large fastener.

How to Make a Bun in Your Hair
Actualy, i know of a very clean and profeesional bun method. I Just got out of the military, and women in uniform use it all the time. It's the sock method. It forms a nice clean, not too fem, donught shaped bun. It's actualy better looking on thick hair as well. here's how, and some pics.
1st put your hair in a ponytail. Get a sock (a men's dress sock close to your hair color is good) & cut the toes or foot part out of it. Roll it as if you were rolling it down to your ankles if you had the sock on.
Put the rolled down sock over the ponytail like a scrunchy.
Brush the hair over the sock from the center, covering the sock.
Take an elastic band & put it over the hair you've brushed down over the sock.
Then wind the hair around the bun & tuck the ends under the sock/hair bun & pin with hairpins or bobbie pins. If your hair is very long, you can braid the sticking out hair in sections & tuck & pin it under the bun.

Depends on the job of course but hats might be an option for you. Also a ponytail can be folded compactly and banded again for a look different from round buns.

A hat is an option, but I actually tried it. I don't know how else to describe it, except that I have too much hair to fit under it! There's basically no way that the hat could fit snug and hold it all.
I'll have to try the ponytail idea.
Hi Peg, Is wearing your hair tied back and under your collar an option? That's what I do and it works quite nicely.

You can always "fold" your tail back on itself and secure it as a folded tail with a second hair tie.
As for buns, keep trying them. As you watch television or do something non-hands-active just bun and unbun your hair and you'll figure it out.
You could also try hairsticks or chopsticks. Try searching for a video to illustrate that.
because if you are, try this:
put your hair in a ponytail. braid it. then twist the braid around the base of the pony and secure it with a clip or another hair tie.
this is the cheaters way of making a bun because it's easier than doing the constant twist-and-wrap method.
beyond that, i'm fresh out of ideas.
peace,
nic
You ,ean like this one?
Pull your hair back and twist it, and it will begin to coil around itself. Keep twisting and tuck the ends under. Then take some sharp objects, actually cocktail toothpicks will do unless your hair is massive, and weave them in and out at angles to each other. The advantage of the toothpicks is that they literally disappear. It is perfectly acceptable to use more than two toothpicks. I have found that the barbecue sticks used in indonesian food, cut to about 4" work very well.
Then for 49.98 you can order fancy plastic hairsticks from special exploiters, but it is easy to make you own, paint them, dye them, whatever. But the toothpicks are magical for people cannot see them.
I find that I do not attract any special attention when I wear my hair in a bun.
Let's get over it fellows. We have won. Most places people do not care. We are often self conscionscious because we imagine other people criticizing us for violating convention, but for everyone who criticizes us there are others who cheer us on for being ourselves.
