I just came home from visiting my sister, her boyfriend was going through a really painful experience removing the rasta braids wich he has had in his hair waay too long, i think he made them sometime in november of last year, you usually shouldn't leave them in your hair for longer than 3 months or something like that, and because of having them in for too long his hair has started to dread, but thankfully he's got two experienced women helping him take them out right now and they've been working with his hair now for about 7 hours!
I feel pity for him because he had his hair almost to his waist and now they had to cut alot of it off:( a whole plastic bag is filled with hair and he's sore all over the scalp, although he's still a longhair, the hair probably reaches down below his shoulders or more now. At first they planned on cutting all of his hair off because if would've been too much of a job to take the braids out but fortunately they didn't need to do that.
I think that he learned his lesson this time around, at least i know for sure that i'll never ever gonna put rasta or dreadlocks in my hair!
Well, just wanted to share what i just vitnessed:)
Simpa,
About spelling you should not worry. No native English speaker, Brit or American will fault you for it. Rather we envy those of you in the minority languages for your mastery of other tongues. Most of us cannot spell accurately either, and those who are preoccupied about spelling rarely have profound thoughts. Because English is a Bastard language, German based, influenced by the Romance languages numerous times, and with a celtic rhythym section, how could anyone ever get it right. But a language with 3 x the vocabulary of the mortal tongues, we do seem to exceed in literature. Neither Shakespere nor I spell consistently, and neither of us worry about it, and neither should you.
Caledonian
Hi Caledonian,
I've always thought to myself of English as a bastard language too, but never seen it called that in print or heard it anywhere else until now - I guess we think alike! It's so true. Don't forget the Great Vowel Shift though!
I just thought he was emulating some accent...like a German accent where W's are pronounced like V's. Like in one of those cheap films where characters are all stereotypes, ja?
Like most people, I had long been of the understanding that dreadlocks cannot be "taken out," only cut off. While contemplating getting dreadlocks myself once, I stumbled across an excellent website: www.knottyboy.com
TONS of great information and advice concerning dreadlocks, in addition to what appears to be an excellent line of products, including...
...
A DREADLOCK REMOVAL KIT!!!
Here's the link, for anyone who's interested in removing dreads without cutting off their hair:
http://www.knottyboy.com/shop/dreadlock_removal_kit/
I am in no way affiliated with this website or company, but really liked what I saw there.
I think he's talking about fake dreadlocks, like hair extensions. For one, he said his hair had actually begun to dread, which is the point of dreadlocks! lol.
Peace
Just to clarify, the Dreadlock Removal Kit I mentioned above is for use with real dreadlocks... I'm not sure what Fallen_angels is referring to when he mentions "fake dreadlocks." Everything I've seen at the Knotty Boy website is for real dreads.

No this is what he had, in sweden it's called Rasta, dunno what they are called in english but the hair is braided like this
And seeing as he has afro hair, they're even harder to get out if left in for too long.
Its' not him in the pic, i just found this on google.
Oh, I see. I guessed it was something like that. We wouldn't call those Rasta in English, but just "braids." It's interesting you call them Rasta braids, though.
Peace
