Hi, do any of you know much about chemical straightening? I have really wavy hair and I want straight hair. I am considering to have it done. Can it really damage hair by making one bald? And is it possible to do it yourself becuase i don't want to go to a salon. Lastly, are there any chemical straightener that work for a month or two becuase I want to see how my hair looks like before it's permanent. Thanks a lot.
I don't know this firsthand, but from what I've read chemical straightening is very much like a perm, but to restructure your hair to be straight instead of curly. I think the chemicals are stronger than in a perm, and there is a real risk of damaging your hair if it isn't done properly. For that reason, you really should have it done at a salon. I don't know how long it lasts, but I've heard perms typically last three months.
I also read about Rusk anti-curl treatment. It has to be done at a salon, but it seemed to be less damaging to hair than regular chemical straightening. Maybe someone else knows more about it.

Thanks a lot. I will check this info up.
"Fantastic Sam's" offers a process (to "relax" curls) which lasts from six to eight weeks...so sort of temporary. I believe it costs about thirty dollars.
