Not me! Thank God! But this guy at my church who has had gorgeous longhair as long as I have known him. My mom tells me today, that he cut off his hair, to just below his ears! (shudders)
I remember him arriving at church on his motorcycle, hair pulled back into a tail. He'd come in with a leather jacket and helmet in hand, and wind his way up to the choir loft where he was part of the music ministry. He's a graphic artist, and a few years ago, he became editor of the town's newspaper.
I cannot imagine him without that wonderful head of hair. Dumbfounded, I asked my mom if she knew why? She wondered if maybe it had to do with his job. The newspaper is heavily dependent on advertising, and shearing his locks might make him more presentable to business owners. It is unfortunate if businesses may have been judging his representation of the town, and it's newspaper, based on his looks.
He's gotten the usual comments from parishioners of the church. I witnessed one person ask him who he thought he was, Jesus Christ? My mother observed another person tell him he looked like Charles Manson. It doesn't help that he rides a bike and plays guitar. The stereotypes of 'hippie' and 'druggie' I'm sure have been conjured up by those who don't know him.
It just makes me sad that he cut his hair all off. I'm really bummed right now. He's had long hair for such a long time. I believe he is now 48 yo, and he's never showed the slightest sign of MPB. I just can't understand why he would cut it. I just hope his is somehow happy with his decision. I know he can grow it back, but still... :-(

Who knows, maybe he cut it for his job or perhaps he just tired of taking care ot it. Yes, that happens!
Some guys want to grow their hair long and they do, others only dream of it but never have the guts or opportunoty to try it.
Still others wouldn't dream of it because of their own personal beliefs.
Longhaired men will always be in the minority for a number of reasons, but the
most common one would probably be that most guys don't want to bother with their hair.
"Who do you think you are, Jesus Christ?"
I'm not sure what would possess someone to call someone else Jesus Christ and think they are insulting them, especially in a church :)
I know what you mean. It was a popular thing to call me within my circle of friends in high school. Most were christian, so essentially they were calling me their savior, which, last time I checked, isn't an insult.
The inference being made, is that the person so emulates Jesus physically, that they must think they _are_ Jesus, and therefore perfect and better than someone else. The name-caller insulted the longhairs religious humility by accusing him of being full of pride, thinking he is Christ, and therefore bettter than anyone else. It was definitely not intended to be a compliment in any way. Hope that explains it better.

You have my condolences for loosing a longhair but then again as you said as long as he's happy with his descision. I do know the feeling when someone you know does that it's a bummer.
But remeber you have all of us to cheer you up.

Not too mention empathize with me. Who else could understand how I feel except other longhairs? My mom didn't even understand why I was sooooo upset. She was like "Oh well", and then commented on how NICE she thought he looked, while I was cringing. I can't picture him without the hair. Going from mid-back to just under the ears is a bit of a shock. I honestly don't know if I'd recognize him if I bump into him. :-(
