Hello Everyone!
Well, today marks exactly one year since I decided to leave the band of lurkers and join the hyperboard. In that year, a lot of things have changed in my life, mostly for the better, and I'm glad to have been able to share some of those experiences with you all. Through this board, I've also met some very wonderful people, and indeed have a couple strong and lasting friendships because of it. =)
So... without any further ado, let us begin.
When I decided to take the original photos for this update, the air was extremely humid here in Indiana, so I took a few extra shots to contrast the effects of moisture.
Frontal, with humidity...
Frontal, without humidity...
Back, with humidity...
Back, without humidity...
Tail...
Half-tail...
Never been able to figure out what the hell this is...
Or this, for that matter...
What my ceiling sees every night...
And something completely unrelated... the most famous alumnus from my university is late night TV host David Letterman. This past Friday, the new communications building was named in his honor. Unfortunately I was unable to see him speak at the dedication due to my work schedule, but it's a gorgeous addition to the campus...
There are still a couple more photos on my site (click on my avatar), and as always, comments and questions are welcome.
Thanks for looking!
-James
Looking good man. Keep it growin.
Thanks, Quester. Appreciate it. =)
-James
Hi James,
Congratulations on another outstanding update, you always have the best way of presenting your photos. Your hair keeps getting better and better all the time, it is thick, healthy, and has great natural waves, and you have come SO far in 16 months. Your photos, and website, are serving as a great inspiration to the new folks who are starting their own long hair journey for the first time.
Another thing is that today is almost EXACTLY one year since I discovered the hyperboard as well, so we have nearly the same starting date!(plus or minus a day or two) It has been a genuine pleasure having you with us, and getting to know you, both on the main board and as a member of the crew. I wish you all the best in your studies, and my very best to you in all your future endeavours.
Take care,
David
Hey, thank you so much, David! You know, I do remember you joining the site, as well. It's certainly been awesome to have you on board, and I wish you well on your continued journey. Take care! =)
-James
Full frontal humidity?! I thought this was a family site :)
All terrific pics James, your hair is looking so much longer and cooler these days. Probably time to update your avatar, I really liked this pic it really shows the contrast between your current avatar and your new hair.
Stunning progress James, your dedication and passion to hair growing and your website inspires me, showing that it isn't just the current length that determines who inspires who! :)
About the new building on your campus, I always expect campus halls to have boring names of people I never heard of or dignitaries on them. The idea of a wacky comedian having a building named after him is funny to me because of the contrast in what I expect, but I guess it does make sense. Too bad we never did that at the University of Maryland where I went, our most famous alumni was Jim Henson. We could have had the Muppet Building :)
LOL! Okay, I was posting that after waking up at 3am, so maybe I didn't calculate the possible connotations that could be made by the term "full frontal"... Aaaanyways, thank you very much for your comments, Chris! Looking forward to your next update. Best of wishes to you. =)
-James
heheheheh :3
James,
Congrats on your one year anniversary of being here! May things continue to go well for you and may you never reach terminal growth!!!
Take care and keep it growin'!
Brett
Hey Brett, thank you very much! Keep growing as well, and best of luck on your continued journey. =)
-James
You have made a lot of progress in the last year; congrats for sticking it out. Now you are a good part of the way there; keep up the good work.
Big George
Thanks a lot for the comments, George! Best of luck with your continued growth, too. =)
-James
Hey James
What fabulous long hair you have achieved in your 1st year. Looks splendid! And, if it looks this well while in the middle of the Awkward Stage, one can only imagine what the end result will be.
You will be just amazed what the next year will bring. Great update, no question.
Justin~
Hey Justin! Thank you ever so much for your support. It truly means a lot to me, and I don't think I could've made it at some points without it. Best regards to you, and always feel free to e-mail me. =)
-James
Looking good all around, James. The tail seems much "cleaner" now that more hair fits into it, though I like the more wild look of the halftail too.
You've really got a great mane.
Mouse
Thanks, Mouse! It's a definite tossup as to which is my favorite. Either way, they'll get better with time. Your last update was very nice and your progress is coming along beautifully. Take care! =)
-James
James, Very very nice! Kudos on your 16mn/1yr milestone!
peace, jonalbear
Thank you very much, Jonalbear! I appreciate the comments. =)

Oops!
Heey James! Congratulations to you for being a whole year on the mlhh:)
And also, hair's lookin terrific, do you usually tail it or just wear it loose?
Take care!
Simon
Hey Simon! Thank you ever so much! Can't believe it's been a year myself. Usually I wear my hair down, especially now that it's getting a little cooler here, though when eating or reading, I do tend to put it in just a basic tail.
Looking forward to your next set of pics. Won't be long and you'll have that great long hair again. =)
-James
Wow! Your hair looks great! And it's very frizzy, just like mine, so that makes it cool. :P Also, I admire your pony-tail. For some reason, I can't put it into one that has a part, because it looks crappy. My bangs are long enough to reach my tie, but it causes my hair scrunch up and such.
Anyway, keep up the awesome work! :)
Hey Brandon! Thank you for the kind words. Yes, it is quite frizzy, but I don't mind it too much. =)
As for your hair and tails, I know what you mean about it scrunching up. Mine does the same thing, so I usually have to comb it down flat before tying it and make sure that the hairs are pulled all the way through after. Now if I just had your growth rate, I'd be ever so happy! =D
Take care!
-James
James ...
Greetings.. The hair is looking so long now. Congrats! Plus; I can't believe how full the pony is now.. You must be pretty happy with all the progress as of late.
You're probably busy with school now ... but you'd love the weather here right now.. It actually hit 42 degrees last night and the mountains already got the first snow a couple of weeks ago..
and of course with no humidity to play all those tricks on one's hair really makes it nice!
Anyway ... glad you're doing well.. Keep up the great progress!
Be Blessed...
Tristan
Hi Tristan! Oh, if I could take Indiana schools and combine it with Colorado weather, it would be heaven. I imagine the ski resorts are licking their chops at the sight of snow so early. Anyways, looking forward to your next update. Have a location in mind yet? Stay well. =)
-James
Looking good mate, keep it growing. :)
Thanks, Erik! Your hair has got to have some wonderful length by now. Looking forward to your next update. Take care and keep it growing! =)
-James
Hi James,
A hearty well done on your 16th month and one year anniversary. Your hair apart from the humidity looks great and if you think you get frizz when it's humid you should see mine. On really humid days I look like Phyllis Diller.
I wish you a good year at school and continued success on your longhair journey. By the way I've been to your university as a visitor to a friend when I lived in Indiana, it's nice campus although Muncie is ummmm well.......Munice. I'll leave it at that. :-)
Take care
Kevin
Thanks, Kevin! Yes, Muncie is... umm... yeah. Seems like you're on another planet once back on campus. I was just downtown a little earlier and it always makes me glad that I don't actually live here, lol. Anyways, thanks for the comments. Keep up your growth, too! =)
-James
Well Phyllis,
I know how that is on those frizzy hair days!
John.B
Hi James,
Amazing hair growth and beautiful hair as well and a great inspiration. Just think how amazing it will be in another 16 months with regular care as we know you do.
Cheers,
John.B
Thanks, John. I appreciate the comments. Can't wait to see how it looks. =)
-James
Great pics, great hair, --- and a big CONGRATS to you on you one-year anniversary here!!!
I'm so glad you stepped out of the dark shadows of lurkerland, and into the glowing light of the computer moniter's boob tube (lol)!!
Seriously... you're a wonderful additon to this communtiy, and thanks for sharing so generously over this past year (and I can't believe it's only been ONE year)!
- Ken
Oh, thank you, Ken! Always the one with words... Yes, this place has become sort of an addiction for me, but at least it's somewhat healthy. =) You're a great colleague, and best wishes to you!
-James
Congrats on the milestone. That's good progress you have there, keep it up, keep it growin' :)
Thanks, derf... I really appreciate the feedback. Post an update when you get a chance. =)
-James
Congratulations @ 16 months James, lookin' excellent! always great pictures! I think we all may have lurked a bit before plunging in. I think I lurked for a year before finally restarting my journey.
Why it's an "H" of course, for "HAIR"
Keep on growin'
Bruce
LOL! Thanks, Bruce! Now I know why that's there. =D Anyways, thank you, in addition, for your always kind words. Keep it growing! =)
-James
You have come a long way very quickly......I like the shot in front of the sculpture the best.
Thanks for Sharing
WWT
Hey, thanks, Walter. Best wishes to you, and take care! =)
-James
Hi James,
Blimey! Is it a year already?! Your hair is doing really well and it's looking very healthy. Keep it up and think about what it will be like next year!
Neil
Hey Neil! Thanks, man, for the comments. And you're very much welcome for the Myspace add. Keep in touch, and stay well! =)
-James
Nice update, James. Your hair looks so much different now. It has gotten much longer and looks alot lighter in color than it did before. I suppose the outdoor lighting truly brings out ones natural hair color. With that said, You're looking very fit these days. I remember when you first joined you appeared much heavier and thicker. What is your secret!? :-) Well James, Congrats and keep up the great work both hairwise and healthwise.
Thank you very much, Chris! My secret? Well... if I told you, it wouldn't be a secret. ;)
Nah, just kidding. Eating mostly organic foods, a balanced diet, and exercise at least 3 times a week. I've found that just not drinking soda will help tremendously. Anything with high fructose corn syrup is absolutely forbidden. That stuff is evil. =)
Take care!
-James
Short and to-the-point. I like it. =)
Thanks, Eric.
-James
Awesome hair as always, it's starting to gain some serious length! Great to see an update from you again. Keep that awesome hair growing bro!
_Mihnea
Hey, thanks a lot, Mihnea! Looking forward to your next set of update pics. Keep your awesome head of hair growing, too! =)
-James
Hey James great pics as usual!!I know what you mean about the humidity thing as it can certainly leave us longhairs looking unflattering.LOL. However your hair still looks great in spite of the conditions.Well need not worry as summer is nearing an end and so will the hot, humid days.Anyway looks like you have a nice addition to your campus and hopefully David picked up some of the tab on that building as I'm sure he can afford it!So congratulations on the 16 months of hair growth and your anniversary with the MLHH.Looking Great!Mark
Thank you very much, Mark! Your hair is looking pretty awesome, too! Keep it growing and stay well. =)
-James
I like that one; hair everywhere on the pillow, but eventually it ends up a bit of a mess. Have you thought of tailing or braiding it at night? I've started doing that with mine. I was tailing it, but now that I can get it into a short braid, I have been doing that instead. The reduction in a tangled mess the next day, is wonderful. All the pics look great, a year from now you'll really have nice length.
Carol
Thanks, Carol! I've tried sleeping with a tail, but it just annoys me too much at this point. Also, I'm a little concerned about breakage by doing that, especially with the tail still being relatively short. But hopefully that'll change soon enough. =) Take care!
-James
Looking good James. Your hair is coming along well. Due to your height it will take a good while to look really long. Keep growing it for sure.
Scott
Hey, thanks a bunch, Scott! I don't mind the height too much. It just adds to the awesomeness of long hair, I think. =)
-James
Its certainly looking very good and certainly suits you.
Why did you shave your sidebuirns off though?
Thanks a lot, UK. I decided to shave them because they were becoming extremely shaggy and much more of a nuisance than I thought they were worth. I can always regrow them, so no big loss. Again, thank you. =)
-James
Excellent update James, and good to have you here for a year!! . . . so far - manymore to come eh?
You really do look like a longhair now.
Regards Dave
Hey, thank you ever so much, Dave! Me? A longhair? YAY!!! ;)
-James
congratulations on making it through the first year!! your hair is looking great! you've got quite the modeling career ahead of you.
that second statue picture makes me think of a bunny poking it's head out of a hole. maybe that's what it's supposed to be. or maybe it's just a random piece of wasted money. who knows?
peace,
nic
LOL! Thank you, Nic... always putting a smile on my face with your posts. =)
Did you go for periodic trims, or did you just let it grow continually?
thanks,
d
One trim to even up the back, shortly before the 5th month. Otherwise it's just been growing ever since. Thanks for the question. =)
-James
Congrats on 16 months! Everything is looking great! Here in western TN, I find it useful to put a bit of oil on my head (I use Aveda but I'm sure anything would work) to tame the flyaways on humid days. Glad to see such a wonderful update.
Allen
Thank you, Allen. I do use oil sometimes, usually when my hair shows signs of dryness or with the flyaways, as you stated. Certainly is a lifesaver... or a hairsaver, I guess. =) Again, thanks, and best of luck on your continued growth!
-James
Hi James
great update as usual, conratulations on your hair growth journey, you are a inspiration for us wannabbes. Your pictures are always good to look at. As you know it was your site and Jasons that inspired me to go from a skinhead. Next month is my 1 year update, and i hope to post a few pictures myself. All the best James, Jonny H uk
Well, thank you Jonny. It is so wonderful to hear that I can inspire people. Certainly quite an honor. Congrats on almost making a year, and I'm sure you'll go above and beyond that. Take care and look forward to seeing your update. =)
