This is my official report from my trim today, so I am copying it from LHC ^^
Geesh... still cant really believe it. For some reason, this might be my last hairdresser experience... So this is how it went:
I really wasnt expecting to trim my hair today, but yes tomorrow. I met my mother at the hairdresser and my sister was there. My sister told me they had planned it for tomorrow (with the hair stylist). With me, ok, said me. But then my mom told us we could do it today, and the hairdresser agreed. Ok.
I was the first one, so she called me to wash my hair. Gasp! So many shampoo? Could you please be more gentle? Please be nice with the comb...
Oh well... She detangled it with the conditioner but, for some reason, she doesnt believe in the quote start from the ends... -_-
Ok then, lets go to the chair. A couple of more detangling and crack crack... She took a little more than one inch (I came from 82 cm to 78,5), so I think its not bad, as I was expecting so.
Then she blowdried my hair (with my permission, since I hadnt done it in one year), and then she only finger detangled (did I say detangle? Ok, she just ripped trough, and the knots stayed... I had to comb myself when I got home)...
The good part is that I HAVE A HEMLINE!! And the ends look so straight and nice! They feel like long hair ends! This is the only thing for which Im glad I had this trim at a salon. I am going to think really wisely if Ill go there next time or if Ill do it myself.
I got a lot of shedding, she just kept taking hair out of my head... I know I shed a lot when I wash my hair, but Im afraid I could have a little breakage there?? (Mm....)
She is a REALY nice lady, and suports me in my goal. But she is so so HARD on my hair! You should see her detangling my sisters hair, seemed like she had a train to catch and couldnt wait!
Anyways, she told me that I needed to wash my hair more often (like twice a week - I wash it once), and to rub it better. She told me my flakes would be because I dont wash my hair properly (I have seborreah dermatitis, and the dermatologist told me I should be gentle with my scalp, so I dont know what to do). I might try washing twice a week, lets see...
Oh well, so here are pictures, and please DO coment on my visit to the salon and tell me what you think about what she said...
So this is the before picture, taken some days ago, after combing...
This is today, blowdried (not straightened!)
And on posing as LHC...
New ends!!!
So now I have a new hemline, that can grow untouched to at least waist lenght (PRETTY PLEAAASE!!!!)... Plase tell me everyone... what do you think? Did she cut too much?...
Gosh... Well it's done, and I love my ends, and I love my hair :joy:
João David..
I personally don't think she cut to much at all. I like the new hemline. It will probably make it alot easier to brush and detangle yourself.. Plus you won't have to really worry about splits and can head for your waist goal at this point.. The fresh new look really only took off a little over 6 weeks of growth depending on your rate of growth so I think it was a great choice..
Your hair looks absolutely fabulous.. thick and healthy. You should be very proud of your progress thus far. Keep up the fine work and keep us posted on your progress for sure..
Be Blessed..
Tristan
btw ... I finally checked out your website.. GREAT job!!
btw again ... I would try shampooing 2X a week and see how it goes ... if it doesn't work out too well for you after a month or so ... just switch back to your regular routine. It seems to have worked well for you so far..
See ya around the board..
You have lost quite a lot of length - 4cm but the effect is quite good and better than it was.
You should now get down to your waist in the next 12 months with a head of hair to die for.
It looks perfect, Joao. I don't think she cut too much. Now you have some new ends which are going to make your life alot easier. Brushing and detangling now should be a breeze! Cheers.
Hi Joao! That trim sure worked out perfectly, you hair looks really straight now and healthy, you shouldn't have any problem reaching waist length:)
Simon
Wow! It looks awesome. The trim probably did you some good and it looks like you are well on your way to waist length, or longer :)
Jeffrey.
Glad to see the trim went well for you. The hemline looks really good. =)
I think your hair looks good trimmed across the ends like that. It seems like the sytlist did a good job with it, but I'm sorry to hear she was so rough with combing it and so on. Sytlists seems to be notorious for that. I remember the lady just ripping the comb through my hair last time I had a trim. Oh, well, you've got so much hair that a few strands here and there will never be missed. I got to watch your video to the other day. You did a very good job with it.

Looks beautiful! I really can't see that a great amount was removed. Great hair.

Hi João,
What a fabulous trim, your hairline looks perfect now, and your hair is thick and healthy. Onwards to waist length for you it is!
All the best,
David
Well, she does get paid by the customer, so I imiagine her hurried nature may have had something to do with that.
The cut looks good, João. The line is nice and you have such stunning hair to begin with. Good for you. I'm sure the waist length hair will be attainable. All the best.

your hair is soooo beatuiful! i do wish that you had shown a picture of how it falls around your face, but i guess i can't have everything.
i don't know what anyone else here thinks, but i refuse to see female hairdressers. they have always been the ones who have messed up my hair the worst. (jealousy, perhaps?) i always look to find a gay male hairdresser, because they always give me the best cuts. (the guy i have now is FABULOUS!)
peace,
nic
Do you think gay male hairdressers are generally better at their work that straight ones? Or is it rare to find a straight one?
i think the gay men are better at styling hair because they tend to have a better sense of style and really want thier work to stand out. i had a straight male hairdresser once, and i wasn't impressed. he should have stuck with short man-hair styling. women aren't nearly as gentle, and i really do think there is a huge jealousy issue with a lot of women stylists. i don't know how many times i heard, 'your hair is beautiful!' and then watched a much longer strand than i had asked to be cut fall to the floor with women stylists. grrr...
Hi Joao,
I think the trim you was right and you hair looks amazing and really and neat and I'm sure you are very pleased and an wonderful example of great looking longhair. I think the natural way your hair has been trimmed is alot nicer than a straight across blunt cut and suits you hair well. Your well on your way to your goal length and keep it growing.
Cheers,
John.B
Your story made me laugh, Joao David, --- you describe the experience so vividly, I felt as if I was there myself! You are actually an excellent writer!! Although I don't think the word, "hemline" is used to describe the line where the ends of your hair are; hemline refers to clothes. But, oddly enough, I don't know if there's any special word for that, --- other than, "ends", or, "length line"...
I'd go to a different stylist next time, if I were you (although "next time" might be YEARS from now - lol), --- a more *gentle* stylist would be nice! I try to remember, though, that these people work with hair ALL DAY LONG... But still, I bet between now and the next time, you'll probably find a stylist who specializes more in long hair that the one you just went to... She did a good job on the trim, though (and, as always, your hair looks ever the more AMAZING)!!!

Joao, Your hair is so luxuriant Not much anyone could do to harm it with a slight trim. I know I get a little nervous when i get near a stylist's chair though!
peace, jonalbear
Wow! Your hair spells perfection after that trim. It's absolutely great looking, and it doesn't look like you lost too much length. Keep up the great work, and you'll reach waist length in no time! :)
João, I don't think you lost too much length AND it looks so good!
My sister in-law is the same way with her daughter's beautiful long hair, rip and tear! But in the end her hair is still gorgeous. Go figure!
Keep on growin'
Bruce
Good to see trim success stories. Your hair looks even more gorgeous than before :)
Absolutely perfect Joao! Just hang in there..........waist level IS on its way.
Your hair has grown so thick, full and long, that the trim really seems like it was a good move.....looks great and should have all those guys reaching your waist at about the same time.
Thanks for Sharing

I think the dermatologist is suggesting that you do not abuse your scalp in any way. But the hairdresser is correct, you need to massage your scalp good with your fingertips, to loosen and remove the flakes. Try concentrating on massaging your scalp only with the dandruff shampoo you use. Don't shampoo the rest of your hair with it. Just rinse it out with water. Do the opposite with conditioner, apply it to your hair, starting at the ends, but don't put any on your scalp. I think if you do it this way, twice a qweek should be fine.
And the trim looks nice. It evens up the ends, and shapes them nicely. If you were having problems with snags and tangles at the ends, you may have needed a trim anyway. It doesn't look like too much was removed. Unless you wanted fairytail ends (which guys usually don't), getting a nicely contoured trim now, will mean not needing anything other than the usual S&D while growing to waistlength. You're on your way there, you have gorgeous full thick hair.

As always, .. pfffff, .. your hair looks AWESOME. ;-)))))

João, your hair is superb. It looks like the trim went reasonably well. 3.5cm seems like a bit more than necessary. She probably could have taken off a bit less, maybe 2 to 2.5cm with good results. Your hair grows so fast that it should reach your waist in one year or less, despite her trimming off a little more than you wanted.

Your hair looks so much better after the trim. It looks a few inches longer too.
Proof that hair does need trimming every now and then.
BTW, there are stylists out there who know how to treat long hair. Look and ASK around.
