Hi
Im a newbie on this forum and my english is far from perfect as it is not my main language but i will try to explain my problem the best i can.
I have been trying to grow my hair for almost 2 and a half years, but unfortunately i ve had a few problems along the way.
One of them and probably the worst problem is the extensive shedding i have experienced, due to the medicine i was taking , to remove the damn acne i had back then. The other problems are the usual pressure that family and friends always put on someone that decides to grow the hair.
But what is really pissing me off right now is that i am going to college in a few months, and in the country where i live there is a tradition off tracking college freshmen ON THE STREET AND DURING THE NIGHT and shaving their hair once they are caught. There are a few ways of escaping of course, like fighting against the leader of the group (that is quite explicit in the rules), or being always accompanied by someone that is not a freshman. But even with these means of escaping i do not know if there wont be a day that i will be caught offguard and unable to do anything against them, because the tradition of shaving freshman during the night last for an entire year, until i am no longer a freshman.
It is very frustating that i have been trying to grow my hair for almost 2 and a half years, and due to the hair loss (thankfully it has already stopped) it is still only 20 centimeters long.
Do you guys have any ideas of what i could do ?
Even if it is a tradition, it is still hazing. Could you inform the school faculty/public safety department about this? You might be able to request an escort from a PS department if you feel threatened.
Yeah, go elsewhere. I can't imagine a longhaired guy going into such an environment. There are so many other options for college.

Your english is just fine...i wish i could speak a second language as well as you do :)
(ive tried learning german and french but im too impatient lol)
The best thing for this is just thick skin and to keep reminding yourself that your hair is yours and your growing it long for yourself and not others
Hmmm....you could take out a katana and hack off there limbs and see if they like to have a part of them cut off :) ...its very unfair that people dont treat hair the same as another part of the human body
I would just goto another college it doesnt sound like a nice enviroment watsoever.....(i was very lucky....i goto music college were it is quite difficult to find a guy with short hair)
I don't know what to tell you unless I knew the country you are in.
In the US there's always the ACLU, hate crimes and anti-hazing laws
Pick a different college, one that exists within a more humane culture. If that's not an option, visit www.russianmartialart.com .
Toast,
There is no way we can respond to your pose unless we know where you are. If you are in any college in the US or W. Europe there are easy solutions.
But, if you are in a country with no tradition of civil liberties, then the best thing you can do is escape to anywhere in W. Europe or the English Speaking world.

about how long did it take for the shedding to stop? i just stoped taking my acne medication a week ago due to the shedding i was experiencing. and i am extremly worried ill have to cut my hair short.
but about college. i wouldnt recomend staying there with a problem like that. its not worth it.
Well the medication i took was isotretinoin or something like that. Although it says that when you stop taking the pills, the hair will stop falling after a month, that is a lie at least for me. For me it took about 3 months for the hair to completly stop falling. Just try to avoid strong shampoos and be patient, but i dont see a reason for you to cut your hair, it wont make any diference at all. In time your hair will fall less and less until it no longer falls.
mine is called Minocycline. hair loss is not listed as a side effect but obviosly it is one.
The longer your hair gets the bigger a target you'll be all I can say is don't go out alone otherwise you'll have to deal with them sooner or later.

Study in another country, at least for the first year!
I tried to find something on the web about this, but the only thing I could find was about West Chester University in PA, and they define forced shaving as MENTAL hazing, not PHYSICAL hazing. How on Earth do they reach that conclusion? Shaving is very physical!
I can see their distinction. The purpose of forced shaving is to humiliate and dehumanize which is a act against one's mental form.
Physical hazing, in contrast, would be something that causes physical physiological harm to an individual.
So, shaving a head or making a guy wear a dress in public would be mental hazing. In contrast, using paddles and such would be physical hazing.
Yeah, I know. Hair is a part of OUR bodies even if the shorthair-o-cracy do not accept that fact. But hair is not an essential part of physiological function, at least not for many many years when hair was essential for warmth.
It's not just that it's part of the body. You have to commit an assault to be able to shave someone. You can't do it by psycho-kinetics or by talking to their hair.
I see your point. All hazing that is not willingly submitted to has a physical component and an application of force.
However, the mental/physical distinction can be seen as a comparison between forced shaving (dehumanization/humiliation/being marked) and cruising around with paddles to tenderize the newbies' behinds (force applied to hurt/damage/redden). The assault is merely the action that allows the hazer to perform the mental or physical hazing.
But, the word "shorthair-o-cracy" is a good word, don't you think?
There is a big difference, however, between paddling or cutting short hair, and cutting long hair. The redness from paddling or absence of short hair is soon history. It can take three years or more for long hair to regrow. This makes cutting long hair more akin to a mutilation than to an assault.
