I'm growing out my hair again and want to keep all the top and sides enough so that you could grab a handful and pull it back into a half tail when possible. While I grow out could I keep the sides tidely tapered about 1 to 1 1/2" all the way around and let the rest grow out? I know this will make maintenance trims a must but I like the look and it's kind of the best of both worlds. Anyone out there who is a stylist or barber who could help me with the pro's and con't of this? Any advice will be helpful, thanks again.
That's actually the same thing I'm doing. In my case, the reason is to maintain a professional appearance as it grows out. Keep it tapered, and keep the longer hair styled back or some other way. Once the rest is long enough to conceal my ears when its down, I will let the cropped part grow out unseen. The only cons are really time and money. Obviously you have to get it cut often, and spend money that another person wouldnt if they just let it grow. As well, as having uneven growth at some point. However, I see some pros as well. I feel I would be more acceptable in the job market with this style, and as Ive said, look a bit cleaner cut as it grows out. This may make the awkward stage a bit less awkward. I guess we will find out together eh?
Another thing to think abouut though, is that this will onluy work for a few months. Once the back gets longer and starts to touch your neck, if you taper it, you will only be cutting hairs higher and higer on your head each time. Thus, you will NEVER reach your goal. Same thing with the sides. Sure, you can just slick it back, but what about when the hair from your sides reaches the back of your neck? If youo taper that to, when you let your hair down you will have a bob. So on second thought, maybe not such a good idea. lol
Great point, I think i will stick it out and grow.
Me too. I'm glad you asked about that, or in a few months we would both be posting "how can I fix my reverse undercut" haha
