Anyone believe, or heard of the belief, that a constant pull on your hair, such as a tail, can make it grow faster? Can anyone say that it's not true or true?
Banana
It's not true.
The only thing your pulling on is the roots, which means the only thing you'll do is pull your roots out. Your hair is produced by the follicles at a particular rate which is different for everyone, and no pulling will accelerate it.
Probably not but I have not searched for actual research on it. But if you try to think about it, why would adding tension to the protein strands make the living hair cells act any faster?
However, a tail may prevent some hair strand loss therefore allowing for faster apparent growth. Of course pulling by itself yanks out strands and pony tail wearers sigh when they take off their bands and see hairs come out too.
Might be interesting to see but my gut goes with no.
It is not true. Pulling your hair constantly leads to traction allopecia which causes hair to fall out.
I thought it did at one point. A year or so ago, I would constantly pull on my bangs (not hard, though), and I would see quite a bit more growth on update shots. However, I've stopped a while ago, and my hair still grows at the same exact rate as it did when I pulled on my bangs. I guess it makes you feel like your hair is getting longer, though I doubt it will do much, except rip hairs out.
