Hey all,
I am like many people in that I have considered growing my hair out a couple times, but as of yet have not been able to stick with it. Once it starts to get awkward, I cut it.
I *think* that I have very above average thick hair. Maybe I am mistaken though and many of you have thick hair like I do. Anyway I'm wondering how this very thick, very straight hair will translate to longer/longish hair.
I don't foresee myself ever going for hair longer than something in the vicinity of chin or near shoulder. Anyway of any of you have seen hair similar to mine before, I'm trying to learn what I can expect over the next 6 months if I stick with it.
Thank you for any input or encouragement
Andrew
Hi Andrew and welcome to the Hyperboard. Glad that you found us.
There is no escape from going through the so-called "Awkward Stage" to having great long hair that looks "settled." You are not the only that cut when they reach this stage as I think they want a "tame" hair look. Impossible no matter what one does. Time will tame the mane. 2 years growth usually does it without any hair cuts along the way.
It would be killer gorgeous long! You are extremely lucky to have the hair-type that you do.
In 6 months you will be in the Awkward Stage that so many dred. Luckily, some enjoy the Awkward stage and all the different looks it presents every day. It is really a very neat stage and some choose to stay in it. I myself loved the wild awkward stage, but with hair at waist level I am hardly going to cut it back to that level now. It is intersting to notice in the last year or so so many young men STAYING in the Awkward Stage.........and it really looks neat! :-) (Probably an in-thing?) In any event, the length you hope to optain sounds like an Awkward Stage length. Not enough hair and weight at this level for all to straighten-out.
Only my opinion and with luck you will get some other views.
Best of luck to you and again welcome.
Justin~
Welcome to the board Andrew, and good luck with your hair journey.
Growing your hair, I have noticed, not only brings out a new facet to yourself, but also shows the hidden side of your friends and family. If you stick with it, you will soon see just how friendly, or not, your friends and family will be when they see you growing your hair. For me it was a filter, I filtered out the prejudiced scum and have almost only open-minded friends now.
Good luck!
Hi Andrew,
First of all, I would like welcome you to the hyperboard, it is a great community like no other. The fact that you have thick and straight hair means that you have the top quailty hair to be grown long, and I wanted to give you my encouragement in your new jouney. Although your intial goal is only shoulder length, there is just something about growing long hair that is addictive. A lot of guys find that when they reach their first goal, they don't want to stop growing, it is so much fun.
All the best, and happy growing!
David
Hi Andrew,
David really summed it up nicely. Thick hair is a huge blessing! It may be a little puffy at first but as it lengthens the weight of it will cause it to lie flatter and then you'll have one awesome mane. Also, like David said, many guys think they want to stop at a certain length but then just keep growing. For instance, all I wanted at first was to have hair long enough to reach a low ponytail tie. Now, I want it to reach my belt at least.
Happy growing and don't hesitate to rely on this community to give you support. We're here to help you reach your goals and not be dissuaded by any number of potential negative influences.
Hi Jason,
As always, tremendous hair, and genuinely inspirational! Superb!
Regards,
David
Hi Andrew. Welcome to the board. Best wishes for you regarding hair growth. I'm sure you'll look great with long hair.

Hi Andrew
Welcome to the board, this is the best place you will find for advice and encouragement to stick out the tough times when growing out. Hang around here enough and the idea of long hair will sink in and be second nature soon enough :)
One great start is to read Bill Choisser's Long hair website which is a super intro to the world of long hair. Enjoy the ride!
