Along with the others; I would like to extend a warm welcome to you here at mlhh.. Glad you found us. - As DavidN says... A place truly like no other.
Your hair should be easy to grow if its straight; even if its thick. My guess is for you to have chin length hair or just to the shoulders will still take you over a year. Growth rate is (on average mind you) about half an inch per month. It's not fast .... if it was; the journey wouldn't be quite as exciting.
In any case; you'll find many tips on getting through those bad hair days which will help you not to cut it. First and foremost; stay away from the scissors. People will try to convince you that you should get it shaped or trimmed, blah, blah, blah, blah.... Forget it! It only delays your goal. Once you reach your goal; then shape it the way you want..
