As you may have been following in my earlier posts, I am in the process of finding a new job. I have until the end of October this year before I finish in my current position.
Rather than cut my hair I have decided to try and go for a combination of working on a part time basis in a retail environment (I used to work in retail 7-8 years ago) and at the same time try and set up my own business in building and repairing computers, maybe with a bit of gardening (lawnmowing)involved. This will (hopefully) allow me to not starve while at the same time grow my business, and keep growing my hair!
I'm very aprehensive, but I don't want to lose my hair, and therefore my individuality. I have just been reviewing all my progress pics since my haircut in 2005 and have come to the conclusion that I definatly don't want to cut again.
Thankyou for all your inspiration, and this great place!
Looking forward to posting my THREE year progress pics next year, even if it means living on 2 minute noodles for a while.
Cheers, Matt!
Nothing wrong with two minute noodles ;D
As long as it's beef flavour!
Nah spicy curry all the way lol
Hi Matt,
Good luck with you search to find a job.
Surely down in Australia must one of the most liberal and open minded countries and surely longhair is more tolerated than some places in the USA! Surely it's not that conservative in the work place is it and you have great examples like Danny Cecati (yes Uwe) and he's a gardener from what I remember.
Cheers,
John.B
Thanks! Unfortunatly it's quite conservative, all the job agencies copy the US job agency model so blindly. most jobs, I'd say about 95% involve going through such an agency.
Good Luck Matt!

That's great, Matt! I wish you all the best in your new endeavor! Hating the corporate mentality is one reason I, too, have started my own computer services business. Being your own boss has its own good and bad sides but I think the good outweigh the negatives. Good luck and keep positive.

Congratulations! I'm sure you'll be happier, regardless of whether the decision was made because of your hair. I wish you the best of luck and many blessings. Please keep us posted!

MattT,
I am glad to hear about your fall back plans, but do not say no to ourself. If a slot opens up for the local city council or regional government, declar yourself, etc., and look in the want ads for any other position of interest to you. Do no assume you will not be hired. Frankly, I perceive that the general prejudice against men with long hair is going away. I see long haired men in every position, profession, etc.

Matt;
You have just the right attitude and will do fine.....these days, the conventional; work for 30 years in the corporate world, then retire comfortably, just does not happen. I find that those of us who have chosen to wear longhair, also think "outside the box" in other areas of our lives (read "individuality").
I am (also with apprehension) thinking about retiring and doing a variety of things (woodwork, piano restoration, photography, gardening, etc) in lieu of "ratrace/treadmill" I am on now.
Good Luck and Keep us Posted
