Hi All,
Well, everytime I think I've reached my terminal length, a month or 2 later I see evidence that my mane is still growing... So, I've decided to keep letting it do just that!
Occasionally I contemplate trimming off the last 2 or 3 inches at the bottom, because the amount of hair thins out quite a bit by that point, --- as well as that is where I always find the most # of split and damaged ends. I am lucky, in that I know 2 excellent hairstylists that are both very good with long hair, and have done a wonderful job in the past with giving me my preference of the classic "V" shaping, --- and will ONLY cut off EXACTLY the amount I ask for (which so many hairstylists often don't do)! It's a good thing these stylists have other regular customers, though, as I haven't been into a hair salon for a professional trim in over 3 1/2 years!!! (I know, --- I can even hear some of you saying, "And it sure LOOKS it! - lol)....
Anyway, I figure it this way: I can always trim it back to a shorter length that I remember liking, later; but, since I ain't gettin' any younger, --- and younger guys have a longer terminal length --- then why not "go for broke" now? I'll never know for sure what my true terminal length will be, unless I leave the damn scissors completely out of the picture for now! Once I feel 100% convinced that my hair will grow no further... THEN i can decide if I want to take it back a few inches; but for now, other than using the trusted old, "Search & Destroy" method of going after the bad individual split and/or broken ends, I'll just let my mane be...
I'll keep y'all posted!

Your hair is looking great as ever there Ken! Hope all is good there with you and all and you take care!
Hi Ken,
As always, your hair is looking Greaaaatttt! I also see some additional growth in your mane, and you are NOT tipping at all! (Yes, I saw the comment that Sorted wrote to you earlier on when you replied to his update, and got a big laugh!) But I definitely see a difference in the length since the last time you posted an update, and there are definitely some sections past your belt.
I totally agree with you, just let 'er grow! Who knows, you might get a pleasant surprise, and find yourself the beneficiary of some hearty new growth. I certainly plan to let my hair grow as long as I can.
Also, thank you for your kind words about my update that I posted on Saturday, and looking forward to meeting you in 2009.
Take care,
David
You are very fortunate to have such hair. I don't think that most people notice the split ends all that much. When you want your hair to look its very best you can always use good conditioners to reduce the appearance of split ends, then the rest of the time you can just "wing it". Either way, it looks super!
jeffrey.
Hey Jeffery, Speaking of Kens great hair LOL I have been using the Shampoo and Conditioner you suggested here a month back and I actually have been having pretty good luck with it. I usually wash every other day and I think it has helped my hair! Well good to see you and thanks for the tip and take care!
I'm glad that you like it. I use the Olive Oil shampoo and conditioner before I go out on weekends. I don't rinse out the conditioner very well on the ends of my hair and it helps a lot with split ends and such. Other than that I use Nioxin cleanser and scalp therapy. I like the Nioxin, because it makes my scalp feel really good and clean.
jeffrey.
Ken;
Your hair looks great and I particularly like the natural "highlights". I would imagine it is your blustery wit that causes the occasional spurts of growth !! HA!
Keep it growing (and keep the wit coming!!....it always makes my day!!)

Hi there Ken and thanks for your comments below on my athletic Mr. Longhaired Dude contest thingee!LOL. Have to admit your compliment was a big honor.Thanks.Anyway I really like the pic of your hair as I'm kind of in the same boat. That is I havn't had a professional trim since Aug.05 and actually my avatar was taken right after that trim. I too keep thinking my hair has maxed out so I keep thinking maybe now would be a good time to do a clean up trim but like you said I'm going for broke myself. Also I have a trusted stylist to do any work on my hair but I've been quite the stranger! So now I'm thinking to leave it alone a bit longer to see if it really is still growing. So I think you are right to wait it out as you have nothing to loose. Thanks again for the e mail the other day as I do appreciate your comments and all. So keep that great mane growing so you can smack all those people at your dancing outings.LOL. Also write anytime your in the mood.Always like getting mail:)Take care.Mark(HB)
Hey, if you've got it, flaunt it!
Hey Ken
I think your long hair looks fantastic and I don't blame you in the slighest for not having a trim at this point. (Those "thin" hairs are hardly anything compared to what mine were like 4" below waist level.) I would have kept that easily.
As long as you are not having tangles and knots that are now about impossible to control on your own, I would without question let that wonderful mane of yours continue to grow.
A good decision indeed. :-)
Thanks for this great update.
Justin~
Looks Good Ken.
Though on the grand scheme of things I never worry about loosing an inch or so to the occasional trim. Lets face it you've been growing your hair for at least as long as me.. what's that 4-5 years? Based on that the time taken to regrow an inch lost in a trim is a meagre 2 months. You might not be getting any younger (who is?) but you're certainly not that short of time.
Add to this the benefits, with fewer splits your hair becomes easier to de-tangle, because those broken ends knot easily, this means you do less damage to your hair combing it out. Result thicker better defined ends, which in turn shows off the length of your hair better because they are easier to see.
Not to say you should trim you're hair looks great, but you sound like you are avoiding trimming because you want to see how far you hair will grow. But trimming doesn't mean you can't keep growing your hair, the trick is to trim less than you grow.
You have a great mane Ken. It is past your waist now and still growing. In time, you may discover new ways to take even better care of your hair, resulting in additional length. I found a way to keep from sitting on my hair while riding my bike. It allowed me to gain another 4 or 5 inches of length.

Interesting post, Ken.
Firstly, as always, your hair is looking fantastic. The color variations are just so cool!
I've sometimes wondered myself what I'd do if I knew I hadn't yet reached terminal length but that my ends were really thinning. In your case, although there's some taper, there's still good thickness and I don't blame you one bit for continuing on. You could always trim back later.
Hey Ken ..
Your hair looks great. I don't blame you for your decision to let it go. If its terminal in 1 month or a year; you can always trim back like you said. Keep up the great work..
Tristan
When I look at the results of an intense S&D mission (piles of sad little bits of hair), I worry for a second, then I realize...they are all about 1/2" long...in a month, the lost length will be back. A half inch off the ends is nothing, as long as I'm not losing long strands. And the lack of tangling and subsequent damage you get from keeping up on S&D prevents damage to the length of the hair.
Keep it up!
Ken! Excellent decision! Your results are ace! I like all the diff colours you've attained, too! I've got four goin' simultaneously my(s)elf; they are ash blonde, brunette, reddish-auburn, and now silvery-gray (hey, that half century mark thing, YOU know!), w/ my beard comin' in mostly salt and RED peper itself nowadays.
Keep it goin' and growin', bruh. The long term rewards of unwavering hair cultivation are many, one bein' a sensef achievement. I'll post another avatar and rejoin some day in the (k)not too distant future, and (K)NOT using the ol' head shoppe black light effect on PhotoBooth, neither.
Yours in diehard longhaired camaraderie,
Quenyan
Go for it Ken!! And boy have you ever got an amazing mane there!!
