David, I wanted to mention that I finally got a question through to Dr. Rassman. He addressed the question on the board. I asked him if a transplant would cause noticeable thinning on the back of the head (donor area) if a person has long hair. His response was no. I thought this was a very good question, especially concerning a man that has long hair and would like a little transplant work. I have thought about having my receding hairline filled in, but I will wait to see how things progress. Naturally, he questioned my use of Avodart, but, I expected that.
jeffrey.
thanks for asking that question, I have always wondered that.
Hi Jeffrey,
I just decided to check the board one last time before turning in for the night, and I am glad I did.
Thank you for informing me of this. I was wondering if you were thinking of having a transplant at this time? The thinning in the temple area in my hair is less than your photo here, and is almost totally disguised with the middle part I currently wear. My thinning is slightly worse on my left than the right, but far from requiring a transplant right now. I would rather wait to see if my thinning progresses more through the years, and I don't want to waste donor hairs now that I may require later. Remember, once the donor hairs are used in a transplant, they are gone forever.
Take care,
David
I heard somewhere in this board that you can use body hair as donor hair, there even were a man who used this technic and that was looking wonderfull.
Is it true or a fake ?

Hi, Angel.
That's an interesting point and if it would work I would have an endless supply of donor hair :)
Actually, body hair has a much shorter growth cycle and is really not satisfactory for transplant to the scalp. Due the the short growth cycle it will never reach the length of scalp hair. The genetics in the dermal papilla cells of the follicle is very different and will not change upon transplantation, nevertheless, such transplants have been performed. Most of the hair that I lost was during my late teens and early twenties. Now, in my old age, further hairloss isn't a problem, especially since I take Avodart. I guess I just want too much.

Hello,
Are you sure that transplanting the body hair wont change its grow cycle ?
i'm not a biologist, but the scalp could product or doesn't product a thing that change the grow cycle of the hair. i think i'm wrong beceause if i was true a lot of people would remove all there body hair to have a thick mane ^^
