I had a shaved head in February and have not cut my hair since! It's now just below the ears and getting fairly long in the back. I'm finally starting to feel like I have long hair. I need encouragement to get to the next step which I consider to be shoulder length. Part of me still wants the shaved head and part of me likes this long hair and the prospect of longer hair. I've just decided to let my goatee grow long. I've never let it grow beyond about one third of an inch and I hope to let it get at least 3 inches long. Does beard hair grow faster than head hair? Will changing from a normal length goatee to a long goatee be as major as going from bald to long hair? Hope to hear from you.
Well, I would say that you are about to enter the dreaded awkward phase. It can be hell, if you let it. I would recommend that this is a good time to get real familiar with the two week rule. This is especially important since you say yourself that part of you still wants the shaved head look. Also have you read Bill's excellent treatise on being a longhair? If not, I sugest going to http://www.choisser.com/longhair/ to do so.
As far as the growth of goatee hair vs head hair? I think that they grow at about the same rate.
Good luck and keep us posted.
The two week rule saved me a few times, I am still growing down to my
shoulders, I've never had the urge to cut it more than two days straight.

You can always shave your head anytime, but why be another shaved-headed/short haired clone?
I too am now growing my hair from having shaved it for a long time. Until recently, I had a four inch goatee. It defintely grew faster than my head hair.
Do you ever get the urge to shave your head again? How long were you bald? How long is your hair now? How did you like the long goatee and was it as big a deal to you as letting your head hair grow? Very interested in your responses.
