Hey Guys and Gals...
I had an interview today for an additional job.. I know it seems to be a hot topic lately with many people in the process of changing employments ... so I figured I'd post this picture.
Hey ... no shades either. :)
This is what I looked like at the interview with my hair right in the middle of the awkward stage. It can be done ... I got the job. :)
What do you think of the look? I still think the hair is a bit bushy; but I certainly wasn't cutting it despite the continuous encouragement to do so from others. My new boss didn't seem to care one way or another..
I would've liked to participate in del's competition but I don't think my hair is long enough yet ... only 7 inches as of yesterday!
Okay ... thanks to everyone again for all the great support here!
Be Blessed...
Tristan
Hey there, congrats on the Job! Nice job and I hope you have a good time it your new adventure! Look pretty good thre all spiffed up to, how could they not hire you! Hair is looking good and its always great to hear a good story like your today. Take care and be safe!
.
Congratulations on the job!
.
.
Congratulations Tristan, I am glad you so impressed them. What is the job?
Hey you looked great but you knew that already :)
Best of luck with two jobs..whew!
Hey Chris..
Thanks so much. Luckily; my two jobs really only add up to like one regular full time job; so its not as bad as it seems.
Despite popular belief; I'm not in the church ministry. At least not as a paid staff member anyway ... Seminary is just something I'm doing on the side.
In any case; I'm in the field of medicine... but not a doctor (or a nurse for that matter). My field(s) are both pulmonology and cardiology depending now upon what "hat" I have to wear. I do take call for the hospital on the cardiac side of things and have to respond to many life threatening emergencies ... Sorry ... I know kinda vague but it gives you an idea of my scope of practice.. I work everywhere from the intensive care units, to the cardiac cath lab, to the neonatal intensive care units.. Thanks so much for asking..
Again ... thanks for the compliments. Its great having you on the board more frequently in the past couple of months.. I always enjoy reading your comments and insights on things..
As always ..
Be Blessed..
Tristan
Hi Tristan,
First of all, my heartiest congratulations that you got the job, BRAVO to you! Your hair is looking great there, and you are weathering the awkward phase very well indeed. Before you know it, you will be celebrating your first ponytail!
Keep it growing,
David
Hey David..
Thanks for responding to my post.. The awkward phase takes a lot of time as you probably very well know. - some days its fine and other days its just a disaster! lol. I can't wait for my first official ponytail.. I'm thinking another couple of months and I'll have something worth posting about..
Again David ... many thanks. I'll talk to you soon.
Be Blessed...
Tristan
Congratulations, Tristan. Thanks for setting such a fine, long-haired example!
Hey Validus...
Thanks so much man. It's been a great day. - Especially since the hair decided to be friendly! :) Take care..
Tristan
.
Hi Tristan
Wonderful news for sure and I am so glad that you posted this. Great encourgement for so many that post to this board.
I think it looks fine!
Thanks again so much for this story of inspiration and hope for the guys currently growing out their hair and timid of the work force and what might be said. We still have a ways to go yet, but things seem to be breaking down a bit out there from what they were even 5 years ago.
Justin~
Hey Justin ..
Thanks for responding. I do hope this will encourage those who are growing their hair to stick to their guns. I believe we can make a difference in the world's view on this (and many other things as well) as to what is truly important.. Getting rid of sterotypes and passing judgement on people without knowing what they are really about.. its just so important.
Again ... thanks for responding and take care.
Be Blessed...
Tristan
Holy smokes, I'm not the only one in need of a new avatar. You look great, congrats on getting the job.
Hey Allen..
Thanks so much for responding. I really enjoyed your update earlier. Yes ... new avatars are definately in order for us soon.. I know Oren is busy; so I'll probably wait about another month so he doesn't have to redo it again in another 6 months..
Keep up your great work and I'll see ya around the board..
Be Blessed...
Tristan
- insert wolf whistle here -

nic
Hey nic ... my long haired sis..
Thanks so much for the encouragement. It really has been a great ride if you know what I mean. - And .. no shades on the next avatar. I promise.
My best wishes on your job interview today as well! You'll do just fine. Let me know how it goes.
Its a pleasure having you on the board with us nic..

Tristan
You look fantastic! Definitely time for a new avatar, and congrats on getting the job.
Mouse
Hey Mouse...
Thank You so much ... It was really a wonderful day.... job wise and hair wise as well. I couldn't help but want to share it with you and everyone else ... How was your get together with your family/friends ???? Were they surprised?
We'll chat soon...
Tristan
They were quite surpirsed, lol! One of the guys that saw me in May simply tugged on my hair a bit and said, "this is progressing well." Others however, that I hadn't seen in over two years, hardly recognized me...and some didn't kwo who I was until I told them! :-)
Mouse
That's great! I love that type of affirmation! I can hardly wait until next summer when I finally get to see some of my family on the east coast who I haven't seen in years as it is..
I wonder if they'll recognize me ??
Anyway .... Keep up your great work Mouse .... and KEEP PLOTTING! :)
Tristan
Hey Tristan, I'm glad you got the job man! Congrats!
Your hair is looking great. I'm really glad that you've endured the awkward phase for so long. It is definitely starting to pay off. Hang in there and keep it growing because it is only getting better with every added inch.
Hey Chris ..
Has the heat broke yet down there my friend ??
Thanks so much for responding. I was blessed today ... usually my hair is just crazy with the awkwardness ... it must've known I had to be on my best behavior today ... lol. Thanks again for your support... You've been an inspiration to me ...
Be Blessed Chris..
Tristan
We couldnt ask for anyone better to represent the longhairs at a job interview.....OUTSTANDING!!!!
Isnt it funny?....even US can clean up pretty well!!!!;)
peace
clayotn
Hello Clayton ..
Thank you so much for your kind words. It's a pleasure to start to be able to represent long hairs in society. I'm finding this is going to be one hell of a good ride!
Blessings...
Tristan
It is great you got hired.
Your hair looks good Tristan. You look well dressed and well groomed. Yes, contrary to popular belief, a man can have long hair and be well groomed. It is good that discrimination against long hair is decreasing over time.
Another kind of discrimination is still quite common, and should be outlawed. Taller people get better jobs in general, and are promoted sooner than short people. Yearly salaries are worth about $1000 per inch. The typical 6 foot man makes $6000 more per year more than the typical 5'6" man does.
You definitely have height working in your favor. From the photo, you appear to be about 6'1" or 6'2" tall. If you were 5'6" tall your chances of getting hired would have been less likely, even with short hair.
Congratulations for getting hired. Sorry for the long rant, but discrimination really irritates me.
Scott
Hey Scott...
Thanks so much for responding. You are one of the true long hairs that give us short(er) haired guys hope my friend..
I couldn't agree more. Discrimination of any kind is deplorable and has absolutely no room to be tolerated on any level! I hadn't heard the height issue before; but then again .. I never really gave it much thought either. It's still a shame ... even if I am the tall one.
I would love to see a day in which discrimination did not exist.... For me that goes for religion, race, social status, etc. I am a firm believer that you accept and love people for exactly who they are and where they are in life....
Oh to see that day of acceptance for all ... would be wonderful..
Be Blessed Scott and thanks for posting..
Tristan
Hi Tristan,
Congratulations on getting the job and that is a very smart picture and well dressed. The hair is coming along great and I'm sure you won't having an issues in the future. The hair is going to look even more amazing as it gets longer.
Now you make me feel untidy as I'm sat here in t-shirt and shorts.
Cheers,
John.B
PS...wow now shades!
Hey John..
Thanks so much. It was a great day. I can't wait for my hair to get really long.. but I'm focused on enjoying the ride right now
LOL ... Don't feel untidy on my account. You would laugh if you knew how long its been since I've worn a tie!! I had to get the picture just to prove I could still tie one..
Be Blessed...
Tristan
Congratulations on the job, and a very sharp picture you've presented. Looks good. Your hair doesn't look awkward stage at all though to me. Actually, lots of guys purposely have that length and style nowadays. That's, of course, a good thing.
See you later, Bragi
Hey Matt ..
Thanks for responding. I couldn't imagine trying to wear my hair at this length day in and day out. It would drive me nuts. Thankfully .. its still growing and continues to be healthy.. Thanks again for the encouragement...
Tristan
ps. Aren't you due for an update soon ???? I'm looking forward to your next one..
Lookin real tidy there Tristan! And congratulations for getting the job:)
Seeya!
Simon
.
congrats Tristran! hair looks great!
.
Hey Trist'O'rama: What the hell do you want to work 2 jobs for? Ain't one enough? BTW, that's a nice plant you've got there. "Feed me Simore." But seriously, you look confident and in charge. I'm sure that is the impression you gave at the interview. I think your hair looks really nice; very "presentable." It does not detract from your appearance what so ever; quite the opposite my man. How do you plan to wear it for Job #3? Bruce'ster
Hey Bruce'ster ...
What's happening my friend? Has your brother started growing his mane yet ??????????? :)
I don't want 2 jobs ... hell ... I don't want 1 job!! :) But; I really only do both jobs a little bit so it works out.
The plant is a bamboo plant ... I noticed it was encroaching on my space after the shot was taken ...
Thanks for the encouragement with the hair. It just gets better the longer it grows .. Can't wait for your next update..
Be Blessed..
Tristan
So, you are not a cyclops after all! :-D Looking all spiffy there, sir! Congrats on the job, and keep those curls growing.
Carol
Carol ...
LOL.. Yes ... the other eye. Both light blue. :)
Thanks for the compliment and encouragement Carol. It is truly a blessing to have you here on the board with us. I know a lot of us feel that way about you being here! You bring a smile to my face..
Be Blessed ...
Tristan
.
You come over very well visually, neat, smart and the hair looks very good indeed.
. . . and congratulations too, but don't work too hard!
Regards Dave
Hey Dave..
Thanks so much.. Luckily I work to live and not live to work... Know what I mean? Its been great so far on the hair journey and look forward to being where you are one day ...
Blessings..
Tristan
Hi Tristan
Yes it can be done. I recently got a new job and they did have the
no hair below the collar rule. I asked for an exception that I would not be interested in cutting my hair. They said oh ok no problem. I'll admit they did this cause I have tons of experience that they wanted not because they realized it was a silly rule.
Oh well chalk one up for a longhair. Also I hope you get the job
Good Luck
Kevin
Hey Kevin ...
Wow ... you're story is amazing! Interestingly though ... If they had come back and said, "I'm sorry.... that's our policy for men's hair." What would you've done??
I admit it is a silly rule; but some places are just bent on policy being just that .... policy with no exceptions.. I'm glad that wasn't the case for you .... Congrats on your new job as well...
Talk to you soon...
Tristan
The hair issue was raised in the first interview and I thought I wouldn't get a call back but in interview #2 a different guy from corporate asked again and I said no (politely) and was offered the job, on interview #3 we talked money. If they said no you must cut it I would have said thank you for your time but I'll decline the position and stayed at my previous job where I was already quite happy.
My previous job was a 75 mile comute each way the new one is 5 miles that's why I changed, the money was slightly more.
Kevin
Kevin ...
Way to stick to your guns man ... that takes guts ... and you gottem!
Congrats again ....
Tristan
Hey Tristan, gladja got that job. You look ever the dapper dude in your corporate attire. The colour of your shirt is well-suited to you, most likely working best to draw out the colour of your eyes to your advantage. And, the eyes ARE the windows of the soul.
Lots of "office-dwellers" nowadays, men I mean, are growin' their coiffures more and more to just above shoulder length, although I've bailed from the corporate world myself (see my partial job resume on http://360.yahoo.com and then click on or type in "Quenyan"; what adventures that I'VE been on in the fast-paced world of corporate monoliths. Yeesh!) and speakin' of jobs, I could use more and better greenscaping gigs myself.
BTW, do ya have any suit designer favorites? Mine are both discontinued lines, one being Nino Cerrutti, the other Yves Saint Laurent, but well-preserved "editions" are easily found at certain "lightly worn" vendors here and there, e.g. the Salvation Army. And thank goodness for tailors. Right now I'm pretty happy with my inexpensive Sears purchase.
Best wishes for higher and optimal employment opportunities,
Quenyan
REV. 5:6
Greetings Quenyan ...
Ah ... your blog on 360 is quite interesting. It never ceases to amaze me that you are so well versed in so many topics my friend.. simply amazing.
Have you ever been so inclined to leave New York? - just wondering ... I've never actually been there.. although I would like to see it just once before I move on to the next life..
I'm not much for the corporate attire ... its actually the first time I've worn such things in many many years.. Thank God for that.. I've never been in corporate America but must admit ... I wouldn't fit in... maybe physically.. but never mentally... the closest thing to corporate America I've been in was in high school accounting class..
I must say .. my attire is simply the Sears/JcPenny catalog ... I couldn't imagine spending the kind of cash on the designer stuff ... old or new.. I guess I'm just a bit to cheap ... I mean thrify for that..
Thanks so much for posting ...
Blessed be ... to be with long hair..
Tristan
Yessssssss! Tristan, your sense of humour is legend; I appreciate your subtlety AND the R.O.T.F.L. smiley. I know exact-tickley wherefrom you come when ya say this "mentality" thing, or mindset, about the pyramidal stratification in the monolithic whirrled (quite vertiginous, that!) of corporate lockstepism izzint for you. Yeesh. Hey, man, I'm a corporate world burn-out myself. That's why I'm in the garden (and other people's) doin' what I do for a livin'; the artwork comes second but moves slowly. Now I know you're headed for stardom as a standup!
Anyway, no, in ans. to the query you positted, I've not thought of leavin' the greater metropolitan tristate area. Been to New England, though. Relocation is a hard turkey to take to task. CHRISTIAN channeler, Edgar Cayce a/k/a/ The Sleeping Prophet, remote-viewed the City in the future and ya know what?! It's underwater! Not so sure that this is from the ice caps melting, but coastline areas aren't the place to reside for too much longer. Mayhaps it's time to change my time zone from Eastern to Mountain, ay?
You RAWK! Oh, hey, ever hear of the Florida-based (but now defunct) Christian hardcore band, The Lead (as in "I'll take your lead . . . "), since ya were their neighbour in Georgia? Thought that I'd asked. Band logo wuzz the cross merged w/ a Roman style "L". THEY rawked, too. Might style be able to find their stuff online.
Bestest reg(u)ards in longhairedness always,
Quenyan ~ Spiritual Astronaut
REV. 5:6
Hey Q..
What type of artwork do you do?? I'm a fan of black/white art myself.. especially something that is stippled.. Don't know if thats spelled right? I don't know any artists personally ... except you now... but I know what I like when I see it .... thats about it..
Yes ... moving is a hard undertaking.. especially across country. Luckily, here in the outdoor splendor of Colorado; I hopefully won't have to worry about being underwater ... maybe just the opposite.. with the global warming issues at hand our snow melt has been decreased (on some years) way below average; therefore effecting our supply down here in the low(er) lands... may be time to trade in the gas guzzler right-wing conservative "get the hell outa my way" SUV for say a hybrid with a bumper sticker that sez ... "No more Bush S**t"
BTW ... I never heard of The Lead ... but I'll google em later.. to check em out.. I'm pretty much a child-o-da 80s and love just about all the hair bands ... plus the Christian stuff as well..
Tristan
I noticed you weren't listed in the directory anymore .... what happened?
T
Oh, uhm, that. I felt (at one time or another) that I had to fall away from this particular organisation. Someone else of a busily engaging, massively creative mind ALSO stated he feels alone in a room full of peops. Hey, I'm not alone after all! That's how I am. So, I asked to have 'em remove my seemingly black-light-lit avatar w/t promise I'd eventually be returning. This they kindly did. I thanked 'em. And thank YOU for your encouraging words.
Nowadays however, I'm more acclimated to the company of humans.
You like pen-&-inks, ay? Then here's a poorly shot rapidograph I
had done, "stippled" and all that, fr. when I used the nom de plume of Carsten Cavern'o'sun, later modified to just Avernoson, the piece itself entitled, "Bluebird (of unhappiness)". . .
Too bad it's so badly appointed in this shot; there's a Gothic
styled stained glass, the rays of the Son emanating through its
triangulated segments, the souls of the lost skittering along
the beams, a thunderstorm to one side, a multi-eyed Shiva on
the other, a huge tear rolling fr. one of my then dreadlocked
countenance's orbits (yes, twas a self portrait), and the avian
in point, somewhat monstrous, perched upon one of my shoulders, weighing heavily upon my lithe frame.
Talk abt. unresolved life conficts transmogriphying into one's
artwork! Shwew! Those Gothic Revivalists, ie. George Gordon
Lord Byron, Percy Shelley, Algernon Blackwood, Edgar Allan Poe,
Sir William Morris, John Milton, Walter de la Marr, Aubrey
Beardsley, et al, would've had me over to their literary salon all of the time!
Thanks for your geographical recommendation. Might jus' work.
Oh, say! The Lead are actually on MySpace, a 2 CD rerelease of
their prolific songbook reproduced most Faith-fully ( *grin* )
therein. Enjoy, Tristan, enjoy.
Re-returning to my longhaired and bearded (and photographically
re-postable!) magnificence,
Quenyan ~ Spiritual Astronaut
You look great Tristan and I am not suprised you got the job. Hope that you now enjoy your new employment and progress well in it.
Best wishes.
Jonathan
Jonathan ...
