Hows it going guys, This is my first post. I've been watching your hyperboard for awhile now just checking out how everyone's hair has come along and I've seen some real dedication. Nice job guys.
I've been having this problem that whenever I get to a certain length my hair gets this insane curl to(Check the picture!) I've been looking for a way to hide it, brushing it it doesn't work and just makes my hair poofy. Usually without shampooing it for a day allows it to rest down but it just feels dirty. Using alot of conditioner( like too much) also works but its not exactly cheap. If you guys could tell me if you've faced this problem and beat it I'd appreciate any help. Thanks again and happy growing.

Hello and welcome to the board! I get almost exactly the same curls as you, especially in my bangs and above the ears, and it usually settles down a day after washing my hair with shampoo, however when the hair gets enough length the hair will lay down better because of gravity:)

Look at it this way, Mike, oh, BTW, welcome aboard, ya may have
that annoying flip now, but it'll be some wave when it's long.
Yours for perserverance AND longhaired camaraderie,
Quenyan
I had the same thing. You'll have to grit your teeth and bear it for a few months. My advice would be to not try and brush it out too much.
You can try using a LITTLE Murray's Super Light Pomade on your fingertips to straighten that out. It's very cheap (under $2.00), and I'd say it's worth a try. It helped me get through that stage of hair growth. I used it to get rid of frizz too until I discovered Frizz Ease.
Welcome to the board and thanks for your 1st posting.
If at all possible, just accept that "curl" as part of the Awkward Stage and refrain from any and all haircuts. The curl on its own will simmer down greatly as the length of your hair increases. The best thing of all is to just get thought the Awkward Stage and not be concerned with covering up everything so much as you are now on a lengthy journey to get from point A to point B. Many enjoy going through this period with a so-called wild Look.............something new ever day. Then again most seem to want their hair to look like perfection at all times which is really impossible. To stick it out will result in magnificent long hair in the end. As long as I have been here I have yet to have seen one single guy that stuck it out that ended up with superb looking long hair.
Best of luck to you.
Hi Mike,
Welocme to the hyperboard, I am delighted that you have found our community. It appears that you have great hair in your photo, and it is well suited to grow long.
What you are experiencing right now is what most of us call the "awkward phase", and can be rather frustrating in the early going. However, before you know it, your hair will be long enough to tuck behind the ears, and eventually, you will be able to wear a ponytail. As your hair lengthens, the weight of it will probably cause any curls to straighten out to some degree, but if you have naturally curly or wavy hair, there will always be some curls. Your hair does look relatively straight in your photo, so I suspect you will just have a few waves rather than curls. If you can get through the next few months, it will get a lot easier, and you can be assured that the rewards are well worth it.
Keep it growing,
David
I guess you are talking about the flip as you brush your hair to the side of your face? This is a consequence of several things, (i) the first is the natural wave in your hair, (ii) the second is the "awkward" length you've reached and (iii) the third is the fact your ends are bound to be a little wispy if you've grown out this far with no trims.
Solutions:
(i) If you hair has a natural wave, use either styling products or heat styling (hair dryer/ghd) to straighten out the flip. (Not so much a solution but a means to an end)
(ii) Just wait, once you hair is longer this flip will disappear, though others will emerge elsewhere throughout the awkward stage, normally as you reach shoulder length.
(iii) Get your ends trimmed to give them a blunter finish, this will make the hair less likely to flip outwards.

Hi Mike
Welcome to the MLHH. Your hair is just at the length where hair growth starts to get awkward. It's a case of putting up with what you think is the best solution for now. As time goes on you hair will set itself straight, but you must give it time.
Welcome
Neil
