I'm now 21 months down the road and never thought I would still be enjoying the trip as much as I am. Here's a few updates:
The requisite length shot:
The front:
And the tail:
I'm not sure I would be confident enough to wear a half-tail in public, but here it is nonetheless:
And this is the one my daughter likes, so here it is:
Originally I had never planned to grow beyond where I am now at, but I am now thinking mid to lower back might not be so bad. So, other than one trim I am planning shortly, my goal is now to go to Christmas 2008 and re-evaluate.
Big George
Looks great BG! Impressive!

Thanks, much appreciated!
Lookin' good there, George, --- and you've got a nice, thick, full head of hair to work with!! For some reason I didn't remember your hair being as straight before as in these shots; not that I remembered it curly, --- but thought it had more waves... Oh, well, I guess I just have a case of early Alzheimer's ("Half-zheimer's?")....
The first time I grew my hair out, your current length was about the time I went in for my first trim. Just make sure you go into a really reputable hair salon, NOT a barber shop, --- even though they charge an outrageous amount of $$$, it's definitely worth it. (But, I'm probably telling you stuff you already know - lol) Are you thinking of a blunt cut (trimmed straight across), --- or trimmed so the back has a more V- or U-shape in back?
Take care, --- and I know what you mean by saying that you hadn't originally planned on growing and then growing further!
- Ken
Thanks, Ken. Actually, my hair has always been stick straight; every once in a while when wet it will break just a little.
I plan to get it blunt cut along the bottom, similar to what Jason has done.
Thanks for the comments!
Wow George you certainly are a longhair now! I don't know that I had seen that you had hair long enough to tail but that was my definition of a longhair. Congratulations on getting there (even if it is old news to you! :)
Looks good George, you have great hair for growing out. I know what you mean about reaching your goal already. All I wanted was to get a length long enough to tail since that was a sign of having made it as a longhair. Well I got there and figured that so many others here had kept on growing that I might as well try to continue to. I am glad that I did because now I can realistically decide whether I want to keep all the length that I have now, or cut it back some. Only way to be sure is to grow it out and then decide.
Keep on growing out George those racing stripes are awesome!
Thanks, I finally feel like one also! And I want to be able to make the same decision down the road. You never know until you try!
Glad you like the racing stripes! Onward!
George, I swear your length just jumped ahead. I remain convinced that hair grows faster in summer because yours just took off. With your thickness I'm sure you're far from terminal length and should be able to reach lower back length without much taper.
Congrats and thanks for sharing your journey!
Jason, I definitely appreciate the comments; if I could end up with something close to what you have I would be thrilled!
Hi George,
What a great update, and as you said in my earlier one, "not too bad for an old guy!" But your hair looks fabulous, it is thick and healthy, and I am amazed at its length after only 21 months. You are blessed with perfectly straight hair as well, and I suspect you have a very long terminal length. It has always been my belief that guys with a long terminal length should take advantage of it, so you should seriously consider growing it to belt length or longer.
Keep it growing,
David
Thanks for the comments; at this moment belt length seems a little excessive for my tastes. But a year ago all I wanted was shoulder length or a little longer, so we will just have to see how it goes.
Hey Big George..
Nice update! It looks great and your doing wonderful. Congrats on setting a new goal. I look forward to watching your progress.
Be Blessed..
Tristan
Thanks Tristan, the journey is becoming a lot more fun than I envisioned; no telling where I will end up.
Wow George! Your hair is much longer than I remember it from your avatar. Your hair is really looking great!
Nice one
Neil
Yea, it does seem to grow pretty fast; it seems like yesterday that it was barely touching my shoulders.
Thanks for the comments.
Looking really good George!
Thanks!
Looks great George! Your hair seem to growing really fast as well, you're almost already at mid-back:)
Simon
Thanks, Simon, it seems like its been a long time coming, but worth the wait!
George, this is a wonderful update! You have fantastic length for just 21 months and as David said, it's thick and healthly. Congratulations! Lower back?? Go for it!
Keep on growin'
Bruce
Much appreciated, Bruce; I'm going to give it a shot and see what happens!
Hi Big G,
Your hair looks great and do consider wearing the half-tail out and about. I really think that is a good style that would suit you.
You are lucky to have straight, length-showing hair.
Hope all is well in the Big Easy.
Bragi
Thanks, I may think about it some more. Still a growing process in more ways than one!
And I am now back in the Houston area again!
Looking good there!
MattT
Thanks Matt, I appreciate it!
Wear the halftail in public. It looks great!
Mouse
Thanks for the compliment, I am going to consider doing so. Still getting used to the "new" look!
Nice update, George! Your hair has gotten quite long. It looks healthy and suits you very well. Keep up the great work.
By the way, The race stripes are looking killer!
~Chris H
Thanks, I'm somewhat fond of the racing stripes myself!
Thanks for the comments.
Your hair looks great Big George. It is very silky and you have very good length. It should be really long by the end of 2008. Keep growing it for sure.
Scott
Thanks, Scott, the support is appreciated!
Good on you BG, the hair is looking superb, ponytail is also very good indeed. I really think you should go longer as its looking too fine to stop now!
Regards Dave
Thanks Dave, I appreciate your comments. Longer is currently in the plans!

Thanks Walter, I am considering whether or not to give it a try out in the big world.
Thanks for the comments!
Looking very good, Big George. The halftail looks fine, don't worry about wearing it out in public. Very inspirational update, thank you!
Thanks, Allen, I am now considering it. I appreciate your comments!
