Does anyone know the whereabouts of from Jin and Jarkko? Hope we haven't lost two of the nicest manes on the board.
Last I heard, Jarkko (sp.?) still had long hair but didn't want to have pictures on line anymore. AFAIK, he took his web site down, and requested that anyone mirroring his pictures pull them down.
Jin is still around I think.
I think some of the guys with past waist-length hair have gotten some un-wanted attention. I can think of at least one other person who reduced their postings for such reasons.
Hi Steve,
You've been a member here I think longer than I have, so I may be wrong about this; but, I think Jarkko himself never actually posted here, --- it used to always be somebody else who would post a link to his site.
Yeah, he only visits here infrequently.

I *think* J. posted a few times; but I can't say 100 percent. Maybe Bill would know.
Hi Steve,
I hope like in California is going well for you.
Jarkko used to post here quite often and yes he did remove his website due to some negative attention from what I remember.
Cheers,
John.B
Man, I swear those are two of the most continually asked about guys here and they haven't posted in...years now?
(Or did I see Jin drop a post not to long ago after quite a hiatus'?)
Since we're having a meeting of the old-school members, I thought I'd join in.
Over the last few years, the MLHH's transition from a predominantly text board to a photo-oriented board has attracted a new, unwanted audience whose main interest is not in growing their own long hair.
The only way to avoid this is not to post photos, or not to post at all. I presume this is what has happened to some of the old members.
I also feel that the old text-oriented board tended to foster more well-written and thoughtful posts. For example, I saved a lengthy discussion about hair thinning with age in which one of the board's regulars colorfully described Absalom, Hair Religion, and EdG as the "Three Wise Men". Posts like that are still interesting to read years later.

Wow, you must have been here from the inception. I don't recall not being able to post pictures. Or, was this not a technical restriction, and simply a cultural tendancy?
Do you have a link for that old post? Or maybe you could re-post it.
I've been posting for the last 5 years (of the board's 10 year history). Bill added the photo capability in 2004. Since then, its usage has increased to the point where today most new threads begin with a photo, often with the text limited to "how does my hair look?"
The conversation I was referring to was between Paul Muny and Elektros in 2005. I've reposted it below. It's a prime example of a well-written post.

Elektros,
I pretty much agree with what you said; I also don't believe cutting your hair short hides thinning hair either. I do think you're right when you say that many people with thinning hair cut their hair short because they think it hides it. And they certainly do.....even if you think it's total idiocy (which I happen to agree with you on that again). But it's their hair. Wouldn't it be really cool if there were more mature men who were out there with long hair? Alas, not too many that I've seen in person. You're almost 50? From your pics I'd have said you were 35--tops. Unlike most people I know, I think, and I'm sure many of you agree, that having longer hair makes people look younger not older---and yet so many people think it's the opposite. You're hair looks great. If you've got some recession at your temples, it certainly doesn't show...and longer hair rather than short hair can camouflage that. It would be very interesting to know how many longhairs on this board, especially the extreme longhairs, have some type of receding hairline (in all its various forms from slight recession onward, without actually being in the process of fully balding). Actually, it seems incredibly nosy to be asking that, but it is a curiosity. That you even mentioned your slight recession is pretty amazing to me. I just assumed that most of these guys who frequent this website here are able to grow great hair because they have no type of recession. All you guys inspire me to keep my hair long but none so than the trio I call The Three Wise Men (Absalom, EdG, and HairReligion....and now a fourth, even though he's still a "youngin'" Bruin). Can you imagine men with extreme lengths in their late thirties and beyond having slight recessions and still being able to grow thick manes that long? I'm not sure it is possible, but I'd love to be proven wrong. If anybody wants to answer that, I'd be amazed frankly. My own hairline has some slight receding at the temples (and my widow's peak has left town too). I think that might one of the reasons why I can't grow my hair to my waist---my terminal length may be lower mid-back; but otherwise, I still have most of my hair, most of my teeth and unfortunately, most of my sarcasm intact (but only for snotty people, Elektros. The person who made that comment about your hair-- well, if she had said that to me, she'd have left in tears. The real mature person would have ignored her, but hey, like you said, maturity is overrated!)

Wow, thanks.
I can't believe pic uploading was added in '04. I think I have, at the very least, been lurking since the late 90s. I don't think I posted at all until this current grow, which started in late '01. I guess I saw enough pictures via links that the fact the board itself didn't have pix didn't really bother me.
As I'm passing waist-length now, I find that my interest in the board isn't what it once was; I attribute that more to being "used to being a longhair" and having "seen almost all the questions". I certainly haven't been bothered by any un-wanted attention.
But, I digress. Thanks again for the history lesson.
Yeah I remember him posting, very occasionally. Though I'm not surprised he pulled his pictures, he had amazing hair, but he also had really soft features which when coupled with some of his more extravagant hair experiments (which included "Prom Styles") gave him a very androgynous look.
Those sort of pictures have the habit of "doing the circuit" in sections of the World Wide Web where you are going to get more than hair appreciation. Instead it'll expand to message from hate mongers who believe guys should always look a particular way and also from fetishers who find androgyny attractive.
Sorted
Hi :)
Yep, I'm still around
Nope, I visit it nearly everyday, at least thrice per day. I just post infrequently as I think guys here provide excellent advice (to hair or personal problems), great support (though I tend to post sporadically to give support where necessary), and as for my mane, I am personally refrain from posting updates too frequently as hair grows slowly, and it seems not to make much sense to me in posting "monthly updates", especially with my length (33"). Furthermore, there's a tendency of abuse with my pictures from the people who do not share our views and preferences.
But still, I am always touched and filled with gratitude when people remember me here :).
Thanks Ken, your posts frequently puts a smile on my face :).
Hi Jin
Nice to hear from you about your hair length to 33 " inches .By what time you think you will recover your lost 4.5 " trimmed length .Will await some pic updates soon.
Sorry to hear that you get abusive messages , but you should discard such stupid people when compared to so many encouraging
and nice complementary messages that you get from this board .
Your last videos of combing your hair were just excellent
Will lookforward to more such videos in future
Keep growing and all the best ,
Rgds Ambrish
Don't know about Jarkko but Jin has been less active on the board since his marriage.
