Hello everybody! I'm an eighteen year old student from Israel :)
My hair hasn't seen scissors for about two years.

Any tips?
Hi Stæs,
Welcome to the hyperboard, I am delighted that you have found our community. Your hair looks fabulous, and you have achieved amazing length for two years of growth. As for tips, just avoid the scissors, and keep up the great growth!
All the best,
David
Thank you very much David! :)
I have been looking for a website like this, actually. Found this board using a search engine.
Well, I think I should ask...do you think I need some trimming?
Hi again Stæs,
Personally, to me your hair looks great, and does not need a trim as far as I can see. Only if you feel that you have an unusual number of splits and/or tangles (which I could not see in your photos) would a small trim be in order.
Hope this helps,
David
Alright, thank you very much!
I'm happy to hear that becase I've already developed a proper fear of scissors haha... :)
Looks fantastic. I wish I could have been in an environment where I felt comfortable having it that long when I was 18.
Hey, a quick technical question if you know the answer:
What's your character encoding? I view with UTF-8 by default, and it works most of the time, but yours came out UPPER CASE S, LOWER CASE T, and then something that looked like Chinese when viewed with UTF-8, looked like ae (merged) when viewed with Western, and looked like a single non-Roman character when viewed with Hebrew Windows (possibly you've mixed Hebrew and Roman characters?).
Sorry if you don't know or don't care... I'm a computer guy, and Unicode standards are something I've taken an interest in lately.
What's really funny is that it kind of broke IE rendering somehow. Once it got that character, it transformed the font on all subsequent text! Firefox didn't know what to do with that encoding. It displayed it as a question mark, then rolled right along with the rest of the text displayed normally. Score another one for FF vs. IE.
Thanks for the reply!
I'm feeling completely comfortable with my hair :)
Actually, people said that I look horrible with short hair (this somewhat encouraged me to start growing).
My default is UTF-8 as well... I have no idea why can't you see that character (the letter 'ae').
My name is Stas (or at least its short version), but as a nickname I write it with that 'ae' letter. :)
Anyway, from now on I'll just use the normal letter 'a'...
That is probably the best tack. The General FAQ mentions avoiding the use of accent marks, umlauts, cedillas, and the like, and the same reasons would apply to non-Roman characters. A link to it is below.
One is best off to limit characters to the 26 alphabet letters, the ten numerals, and the characters that can be made on a standard US-ASCII keyboard without pressing any key other than the Shift key along with other keys. Put another way, these are the characters you actually see printed on the tops of your keys. If a character is not in white on this image, we recommend it not be used when posting to the board (with the exception of lower case versions of the 26 letters, of course):
Some Microsoft products such as "Word" will convert quote marks to smart quotes (a/k/a curly quotes) and make other changes that don't use the above characters. To avoid this problem, one should not compose text in such a program to paste it in.

interesting--looks okay in Mac Safari, only thing noticeable is the ae combo.
Safari's default is Western (ISO Latin 1)

Excellent achievement, Staes!
Trimming's always up to the individual.
Hey, if you can trust a stylist who themself SPECIALISES
in longhaired trims, which means that they won't take too
much off, as I know there've been some "horror" stories told
here, then go for it.
Say, how many longhaired guys, on the average, do ya know over
there in Israel? I hear that it's more prevalent amongst the
student population than one might think.
Good luck with your studies, Staes, and welcome aboard! Lookin'
great! Keep it goin' and growin'!
Yours in longhaired camaraderie,
Quenyan
Hi Quenyan, thanks for the reply. :)
Few of my friends have long hair, but there aren't many here. I haven't looked into any statistics, so I can't answer in numbers...
Staes, Wonderful hair Is that your natural color.
My tip is to let it grow!
peace, jonalbear
Hey man, looking great! I like the color. I don't think you need any trimming, but that is always an individual decision. Welcome.
Hey very cool hair Stæs! Looks fantastic. I have a similar hair type, straight an brown as well. Welcome to our site I hope you enjoy hanging around here with us.
Welcome Stæs, looks like your doing all the right things up to this point. The only advice I would offer is stay away from the scissors. (but apparently you already know that!)
Keep on growin'
Bruce
Great head of hair! Welcome to the site, Stas. Hope you find it to be welcoming and a place to stick around. Keep it growing and looking forward to future updates. =)

hi Staes, welcome to MLHH. You have brilliant hair it's too bad
you'll have to cut it for military service but it will grow back if you choose to do so, and we hope you do. You would look amazing with lower back length hair in my opinion.
I also want to apologize for the hijacking of your thread by a political discussion. It does happen here from time to time and if it gets out of hand the moderators will step in if need be.
Thank you for posting and good luck in your studies.
Kevin
The army will take away the hair, but not its roots :D
I will grow it back, that's for sure.
I think people should be asking _you_ for tips. Like, how'd you keep away from the scissors for two years? Your hair looks just fine, it doesn't look like you need any tips. Welcome to MLHH.
Carol
Staes...
First and foremost welcome to mlhh.. I think your hair looks great and only hope that you are able to keep it as long as you desire..
I apologize whole-heartedly for my participation in the below threads. I do want you to know that I support you and your journey both with your hair and your service to your country if that be your decision..
Be Blessed...
