Hi everyone,
First of all, I would like to thank everyone for your replies to my recent 41 month update, remember, that it would not have been possible without the support of everyone in this fabulous community.
We have had the most amazing fall in Nova Scotia, almost unlimited sunshine, and warm temperatures. It was so nice on Monday that I took my camera to my local golf course (Lost Creek Golf Club), which is about 25 minutes north of Halifax. It is a magnificent course, blessed by the hands of Mother Nature, with many natural streams and ponds. I have to admit that there is not much hair in these photos, only a pony tail or two, but I thought I would share a little of what it is like to be on my golf course.
Between the fairways of the first hole, and eighth green, there is a pond.
The second hole has fond memories for me. About a month ago, I got my first ever hole-in-one on this hole. The tee is on an island, surrounded by a small natural river. One of the members of my foursome took a picture of me on the tee, looking towards the green, on the other side. Please excuse the messy ponytail, it was a bad hair day! The first fall colours atre taking hold.
On the same tee, I took a picture, looking upstream. I have seen people fishing from the bank occasionally. (There are lots of lost balls in here as well, lol!)
On the other side of the river, I took a photo looking back towards the tee.
The fifth hole has an island green. Here is a photo of me, looking towards that green in the distance.
The eighth hole has a beautiful approach shot, looking downhill. You have to hit your ball across the river to the green in the distance.
Here's the approach shot to number 12 green, the sidehill lie makes it difficult, with that pond in play.
The 16th has an approach shot that I have messed up FAR too many times, lol! It is an intimidating shot across the small pond.
Finally, the tee shot on the 17th hole, yet ANOTHER pond to hit over, and there is still another pond to the right of the green in the distance.
Well, I have to apologize for the large number of photos, but I just thought I would share a little bit of what my province has to offer in the way of scenery.
If any of you get to Nova Scotia some day, I would be delighted to show you around my fair province.
Thanks all,
David
Wonderful pictures David, beautiful scenery and very natural looking for a golf course! We are having a grey cloudy autumn so far, so these images are welcome to my eyes. Even on a bad hair day your ponytail is looking amazing, I'm so glad your able to spend time and enjoy the weather, and CONGRATULATIONS on the hole-in-one - don't you have to buy all the beers and dinner?
Warm regards Dave
Hi Dave,
Thank you for your kind words about my latest photos. I am sorry to hear of all the dull weather out your way in England. The fall has been amazing here, and warm as well. It was over 30 C one day last week, and over 20 C today. It is supposed to remain in the low 20's (low 70's for my American friends!) until the weekend, not bad for October.
Thank you for your kind words about my recent ace. I did have to buy some beer, but not too much, as the course was fairly quiet that day. However, it was worth every penny, as the hole-in-one was a lifetime dream come true.
Take care,
David
Hi David,
That's a beautiful golf course. I had in mind that the forests of Nova Scotia were more predominantly coniferous than broad-leaf, but looks like there are a large amount of trees turning colors now. That course has way too much water for me! The little I've played, the water seems to have some sort of black hole effect on my ball. Certainly, I couldn't play strict rules golf there, starting and finishing with the same ball. I think that you are better than me as a golfer though as I haven't played in a couple of years. I've never seen cart path bridges like those with all the steel; I bet someone plunged a cart in there at some point.
And, I think I might have missed your last hair update; at any rate, if I did, belated congratulations and beneficence towards future longhairedness!
Hi Matt,
Tahnk you for all your kind words about my latest photos, and don't worry, you did not miss my last update at all, and I really appreciated your reply that you made to it.
I am not really that good a golfer myself, mostly in the low nineties, with a few rounds in the 80's from time to time, and a few HIGHER rounds as well! I just happened to get lucky that day when I got the ace on the second hole.
I see what you mean about water being a magnet for golf balls! There IS a lot of water on my golf course, and it comes into play on at least half the holes, and I have made FAR too may donations to the "water gods", lol!
Take care,
David
Oh, I am worried.:-) You see, I think my brain may explode soon as I have packed in too much information at once and am finding that it is all mixing together to keep me wondering what planet I'm on sometimes. Actually, just while ago when I opened the board and saw the thread about someone complimenting your new avatar, I could have sworn it was some sort of deja-vu as it seemed that the exact same people said the same thing before t some point. Also, when I saw your golf thread right above it, at first, I thought it was the same one you did some weeks ago. I was about to check to see if the board was malfunctioning or something and reposting older posts or something. And, I'm not being humorous; I really thought this! Well, forgive me, after a few hundred lines of Latin poetry, a few historical novels and a few more research projects and essays, you might just have the same frame of mind! MWHAHA!
Hi David,
Hasn't this just been an incredible streak of great weather? It's a little warm for my tastes actually but I love autumn.
I never have played golf but that course looks lovely. It must be a peaceful feeling to be out on it for several hours. That was especially cool to see the hole where you got the hole-in-one. I was hoping to see that. Congrats again on that - what an achievement!!
I think your ponytail looks fine and it's a good way to wear it while playing. Although I think a braid would do well also! [wink]
Jason
Hi Jason,
Thank you for your comments about my photos and your kind words of congratulations on my hole-in-one, it was a dream come true. The course is genuinely beautiful, and has been certified by the Audubon society. There is an ubundance of matural wildlife, but sadly, none was around at the locations I took the photos.
I admit that I need to get down to business and start practicing braiding again, after all, my fellow members at the LHC drop hints to me once in a while! Time to get to work!
Thanks again,
David
Hey David, great pics! Looks like this is a rough course and congrats on that hole in one...wow! Great scenery around there, never been to Nova Scotia. Great weather for this time of year for you too. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Max L
Hi Max,
Thank you for your kind words about my golfing photos, and for your congratulations on my recent hole-in-one. Nova Scotia is a beautiful province, especially in the fall, and this fall has been one of the best ones in years. We had a little rain last night, but the skies are expected to clear today, and it will be perfect right through our Canadian long weekend. Hopefully, you can get to my provice sometime.
Take care,
David
WOW David that's really lovely scenery up there. I see your leaves are just starting to turn, it's beautiful. I can see why you like to spend time on the golf course. I don't play golf at all but I would love to walk around there.
I for one enjoy when members take pics of the area where they live.
At some point in time when I get a day off I'll go and take some pictures or rather get Ray to take a few of me maybe a length pic
with some nice background.
Thanks David for a terrific post.
Kevin
Hi Kevin,
I am delighted that you had a chance to see the natural beauty of my province, and thank you for your kind words. My course has been blessed by the hands of Mother Nature, and has been certified by the Audubon Society. Also, we have had a truly magnificent fall.
Hopefully, you will have a chance to visit my fair province some day. I will be eagerly awaiting your photos as well.
Take care,
David
Thanks for sharing those lovely photos, David. I love Autumn (Don't miss Jason's photos posted today)and your part of the world is fantastic this time of year.
PonyTail looks great to me !
Walter
Hi Walter,
Thank you for your kind words, and I agree, I think the fall is one of the best times of year. And this year, we have been blessed with unlimited sunshine.
All the best,
David
Hi David wow thats a whole lot of pics!LOL. I still haven't figured out yet how to attach multiple photos in a single post so I'm forced to do the one pic at a time thing.Anyway you look really cool in your golf attire with the long ponytail.I'm sure all the others there have to be a bit jealous thinking I wish I had the courage to grow out my hair like David. But I guess the corporate look kind of rules on the greens for the most part. Let me add to the congratulations on the hole in one as thats got to be quite an accomplishment there.I had a hole in one in mini golf a few times when I played that:)LOL. So great work David and thanks for taking the time to put together all those great shots.Mark
Hi Mark,
I really appreciate all your kind words about my photos, and for your words of congratulations on my hole-in-one. My golf course is absolutely gorgeous, blessed by the hands of Mother Nature. Of course, having perfect weather certainly helps.
Actually, one of the other members of my golfing foursome is also growing his hair, and he is one year younger than myself. After about 21 months, he has about a ten inch long, blonde ponytail. He has straight, fast growing hair and has no intention of cutting anytime soon (except for "dusting" trims once a month for splits), and I suspect his terminal length is far longer than mine. It will be interesting to see how long is hair is in another year, and I think he may consider growing it to his waist.
If anyone on the golf course gives me flak about my hair, my favourite comeback line is, "At least I can still grow hair!" That gets them every time.
Posting mulitple pictures is easy if you have a picture hosting site like Photobucket (free). Then it is easy to copy the links from your photos to the body of your post. (you have to make sure you use the correct format that is compatible with the hyperboard)
Take care,
David
Great pictures, David. Never been one for golfing myself, but I can appreciate the beautiful scenery you get to enjoy while out for a round. And of course the hair lookd great! To think you hadn't put it in a ponytail the last time it was long.
Mouse
Hi Mouse,
Thank you for all your kind words about my golf course photos, and I really feel blessed to be able to play such a beautiful course. Of course, I always walk the course.
I agree, I wish I had worn a ponytail when I last had my hair long in 1999 and when I took up golfing for the first time. I could have saved myself the cut that I had back then, and would probably have much longer hair now.
Take care,
David
OK, you're going to find this hard to believe, David; but, here goes...
I WANT TO MOVE TO NOVA SCOTIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG, what a BEAUTIFUL land you live in!!! Seriously, your Province in the wonderful country of Canada looks like the "best of both worlds", --- in that, your clear blue skies remind me of what I often see when I look up out here on the West Coast; but your lush green vegetation reminds me of the land I miss back in the Midwest, like favorite vacation spots of my youth (ie: the Northern Great Lakes region, like Michigan's U. P. and far No. Wisconsin, both of which I spent a lot of time in as both a kid and as a young adult)
Anyway, as much as I love California (and beleive me, i DO), the "Golden State" is both getting more and more crowded & congested, and also often looks more and more BROWN than actually, "golden", --- especially the longer I live here...
Thanks for sharing those pics!!!
- Ken
Hi Ken,
I am delighted that you had a chance to see these photos of my beautiful province of Nova Scotia, and thank you for your kind words. I really feel as though my province is a special place, especially in the late summer and fall when the weather is at its best. (it was in the mid to upper 80's one day last week, and will be in the low 70's today) These photos are but a small sample of what my province has to offer, we also have rocky shorelines, and the beauty of the Cape Breton highlands. Of course, our winter and early spring weather has a lot to be desired, lol!
If you and Even ever get up my way, I would be delighted to act as "tour guide"!
Take care,
David
Wow David! What a magnificent Golf Course you have and the photos.........just Gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Reminds me so much of a course 10 minutes away from where I live minus the mountains.) I had NO IDEA that NS could be as beautiful as this.
And the hole-in-one? FANTASTIC! To think what the chances are of getting such. You MUST be the Arnold Palmer of the Golf Group in which you play.
Your long hair looks fabulous and the ponytail is ever so impressive. :-)
Thanks so much for sharing with all of us this set of photos. Much appreciated.
Take care David and hope you get another hole-in-one next time you golf.
Justin~
ps: I got a "hole-in-one" once myself at the age of 8. Yup! And it was with the Walt Disney-Mickey Mouse indoor minature golf set of 9 seperate holes. The ball went under a chair and landed in hole #8! (This was the hardest one of all and its fate was finally smashed with one of the official Mickey-Mouse Golf Clubs by one of my friends who just couldn't do it.) LOL Days gone by..........but such days of fun we had. The kids today don't know what they are missing.
Hi Justin,
I am delighted that you had a chance to see the beauty that blesses my fair province. Thank you for all your kind words about my photos and for your words of congratulations for my hole in one.
I am not really that good a golfer, and there is one guy who is FAR better than myself in my foursome. I just happened to get lucky that day with one swing, but it was a dream come true when I finally got one. Of course, I had some buying to do in the clubhouse afterwards, lol!
The weather has been just beautiful in Nova Scotia lately. We had a little rain last night, but it is expected to clear toady, and then we are forecast to have sunshine right through our Canadian Tahnksgiving long weekend. Too bad that the winter and early spring weather has so much to be desired, lol!
I really enjoyed your story of your own adventures when you got a hole in one!
Take care,
David
Golf seems boring to me; though doctors, priests and CEO's all claim it is a form of relaxation. But that golf course is anything but boring. Around here, the courses are mostly flat, and quite boring. Such a lovely course would be a pleasure to walk, that any boredom would be erased.
I've been to Canada, but never Nova Scotia. I just salivated over scenes of it and neighboring Prince Edward Island, while watching PBS Wonderworks' Ann of Green Gables, and a documentary on the making of the series, which was filmed in NS and PEI. I always thought that they were probably the most beautiful provences in all of Canada, much like New England is so beautiful in the US.
You certainly had a picture perfect day, blue skies and ambient temperatures. After a brief respite from the heat, with some cool fall-like temperatures, Maryland is getting another hot spell. Plus, the various pollens here aggravate my allergies. I hear that Nova Scotia is mostly evergreens/conifers, not as many pollen producing trees and plants. I suspect such allergies are rare, if not unheard of. Tired of humidity, heat, and pollens. New England calls me. The only drawback is New England and Nova Scotia have cold winters. Do you like the climate there?
Carol
Hi Carol,
Thank you for all your kind words about my Nova Scotia photos. I agree that my province is blessed with some of the best scenery around, and this golf course is but a tiny example of the wonders that await you here. We have rocky shorelines and then there are the Highlands of Cape Breton, and everything is uncrowded and unpolluted.
The fall here has been unbelievable. We had a little rain last night (good timing!), but the sun is out brightly again, and it is in the low 70's. I am still wearing shorts these days when I play golf. The beautiful weather is expected to continue right through our long holiday weekend, with a slight cooldown on Sunday and Monday, but not a drop of rain is in the forecast. Of course, I have to be honest and confess that I despise the winters and early springs here.
The proportion of evergreens to deciduous trees varies across the province. In Halifax, there are probably more leafy trees, and in other areas, more conifers. So I cannot guarantee 100% relief from pollen allergies.
Hopefully, you can find some time to get up my way sometime. I would be delighted to show you around my province that I call home.
Take care,
David
David, I've got questions for you, but it would get off-topic of the hyperboard. Can I drop you an email through the hyperboard? Or do you have a direct address?
Carol
Hi Carol,
Sure, feel free to drop me a line anytime! I would be delighted to hear from you. You can email me through the hyperboard system or you can send me a PM through on the LHC, and once I reply to you, you will then have my private email address.
Looking forward to your email, and take care,
David
Fantastic pictures David and it looks like a beautiful golf course. But so much water!! Do they make floating golf balls? That's what I would need to complete the course! Golf was excellent excercise for me back in the 70's. I think I swung at the ball 15 times for every hole! And I have Scottish blood! I'm sure you're a master at the course and maybe someday I'll try the game again.
Take care and good golfing,
Bruce
Hi Bruce,
Thank you for stopping on by to see my golf photos, I am glad you liked the beauty that my fair province is blessed with. yes there IS a lot of water on my course, and I have made FAR too many donations to the water gods myself, lol! But the weather has been gorgeous this fall, mid 70's today, more of the same tomorrow and Saturday.
I am afraid I am not a master at the game, I consider myself a bit of a hacker, actually. The hole-in-one was just a lucky swing with my 7-iron.
That is VERU cool that you have Scottish blood! My mom was born in Edinburgh, so I have Scottish roots of my own.
Take care,
David
Wow those sure are beautiful pictures David, I don't golf but I would sure enjoy just walking the course to see such sights. You have magnificent countryside where you are and the colors in the pictures are outstanding. It was a great photography day David even if it was a bad hair day :)
Hi Chris,
Thank you for stopping in to see my golf photos, I am glad you liked them. I really think part of the resaon I enjoy golf so much is the beauty of the surroundings where I play, and naturally,I always walk my golf course. Hopefully, you will try it sometime, it is like a real tonic when the pressures of everyday life get to you and you just need a place of peace and harmony.
I hope you are feeling better these days as well. I am always sending out good vibes and prayers that somehow, a cure will be found for your condition.
Take care,
David
What an amazing set of photos, David! I'm not much of a Golf fan but I must admit that is one beautiful Golf Course. I'm not really familiar with Golf so I'm not exactly sure what a hole in one is. It sounds good though! All these holes have got me confused already. Too many holes! lol. Anyway, Thanks for sharing these remarkable photos of your extraordinary gold course. Magnificent!.
See you around.
Hi Chris,
I am delighted that you had a chnace to see my golf photos, than you for stopping in to see them! I only took up the game in 1999, and it is a great way to enjoy the scenery and try to chase a little white ball in the meantime.
A hole-in-one is a simple thing, but very special. It simply means that when you swing to hit the ball with your club, it finds the hole in one shot. Only a small percentage of golfers get one in their entire lives, I have dreamed for years of getting one, and frankly, never thought that dream would come true, as I am not that good a golfer. However, on August 26th, my lifetime dream came true with one lucky swing.
Thanks again, and take care,
David
Hey David! Very beautiful pics, it looks like autumn hasn't really started yet there, here it's totally different:)
It must be very nice to golf on such a nice day:D
Take care!
Simon
Hi Simon,
Thank you for stopping in to see these photos of my home province, I am glad you liked them. I hope the weather has not turned too cold where you live. We have been blessed with the most beautiful fall weather in Nova Scotia lately, and it is expected to last through the weekend. I am sure change is imminent soon, however.
Take care,
David
Wow! What a nice golf course! It's very beautiful and it looks like you had a good time. Nice tail and beard, by the way. ;) Keep up the excellent progress!
Hi Brandon,
Thank you for all your kind words about my photos and about my hair and beard. I really feel blessed right now to be living in Nova Scotia, as this has been the most beautiful fall which helps to bring out Nature's beauty to the fullest. I won't be saying that when the snow flakes begin to fall later on this year, lol!
Take care, and keep it growing,
David
Hello David ...
Great photos my friend. I don't know what it is about nature and long hair; but they just seem to go together like bacon and eggs ... lol :) You have some fabulous shots and your hair is always top notch. Enjoy the Fall weather ... as we know ... winter is lurking right around the corner..
Be Blessed...
Tristan
Hi Tristan,
Thank you for your kind words about my photos and hair, and I really appreciate hearing this from you, as you and Jason probably take the best nature photos of anyone on the hyperboard. The weather has been so beautiful this fall that I really wanted to share the beauty of my province with my fellow members on the hyperboard. Of course, I dread the thought of winter coming on.
Take care,
David
Hi David...
Your welcome my friend.. If you decide to come this way in a few years I'd be more than happy to give you the "nickle" tour of my state.. its something everyone should see at least once in their life in my opinion...
This photos for you David.. It was taken on one of my climbs..
Sometimes words just aren't enough...
Be Blessed...
Tristan
Hi again, Tristan,
Your photos of your beautiful state of Colorado never fail to disappoint me! I am sure it is one of the most beautiful locations on the planet, and really is blessed with God's paintbrush. Although it is slightly off the track of my planned road trip, the more and more I see of Colorado, the more I think it is well worth my time to make a detour just to see the majesty of your surroundings.
Of course, I would be honoured to meet you as well, and would be delighted to accept your invitation to show me around your fair state.
Thank you again, and blessings to you,
David
Thats beautiful scenery, David. You are truly blessed to be able to escape the urban sprawl and get away to places like that once in awhile. Just showing my ignorance, but, how far is where you are away from New York City?
Hi Allen,
Thank you for your kind words about my photos. Nova Scotia is a gorgeous province, and today was even better than on the day I took those photos. It was sunny yet again, in the 70's, and the fall colours are finally becoming a lot more vibrant than they were a few days ago.
As the crow flies, I think Nova Scotia is about 1000 miles from NYC, or about a two hour flight. You should try to visit some time, I would be delighted to show you around my fair province.
Take care,
David
